2005
Continued his rapid improvement, earning his first pole, leading his first laps and finishing fifth in the points. Scored five podium finishes including back-to-back runner-up finishes to end the campaign. Had four front-row starts including his first Champ Car pole, won on the new Finning International Raceway in Edmonton. A mid-season string of three DNFs ended his title shot, but the young Californian ended that run with a podium finish in Denver. Qualified in the top 10 in the last 11 races of the year. Finished fifth with 227 points.
2004
One of the brightest young stars in American open-wheel racing, this Californian made his long awaited Champ Car debut moving up to the top ranks with his 2003 Toyota Atlantic Championship team RuSPORT. It only took three races for the 22-year-old rookie to find his way to the top five in Milwaukee. The next two consecutive events he finished sixth before vaulting to the top three in Vancouver, scoring his first Champ Car podium aiding the first 2-3 podium result for rookie team RuSPORT. His best career-start came in Montreal, where he started on the outside of row one in a race that saw him lead his first Champ Car career laps. Finished five of the season’s last six races in the top six, capped by a third place run in the season finale. He earned the Roshfrans Rookie-of-the-Year award by a 41-point margin, becoming the first American-born driver to claim the honor since 1991.
2003:
The 21-year-old Allmendinger captured 8 poles and eight victories in storming to the Toyota Atlantic championship, shattering track records set by drivers with names such as Jacques Villenueve, and never qualifying outside the top three… Captured the Atlantic series record for most wins in a single season by a rookie…His 2003 performance also gave him Rookie of the Year honors, as well as the Toyota Atlantic Championship title. A.J. became the second-youngest driver to win the championship, just behind Michael Andretti.
2002:
Won six races, four pole positions, and earned nine podium finishes en route to the series title in the 10-race Barber Dodge Pro Series. His lowest finish of the season was fourth place at Cleveland. Scored 188 championship points and beat second place Rafael Sperafico by a series record 68 points. His six 2002 victories also tied him with Kenny Brack for most victories in a single season. By virtue of his performance, he participated in a Ford-Cosworth Champ Car engine test alongside several CART Toyota Atlantic Championship drivers.
2001:
Earned the Barber Champ Car Karting Scholarship and finished second by two points behind Julio Campos in the Formula Dodge National Championship.
2000:
Driving for Paul Tracy Karting, Allmendinger’s performance in the inaugural Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow program in Las Vegas enabled him to be selected as one of five drivers to test a Team Rahal Champ Car.
Early Career
Is a two-time International Karting Federation Grand National Champion.
