- In 2006, McMurray moved to the powerful Roush Racing team to drive the #26 car. He was initially slated to take over Mark Martin’s #6 car, but driver shuffling forced Martin to delay his retirement another year and McMurray moved to the #26. He had troble adapting to the Roush camp and ended up a disapointing 25th in the standings.
- In 2007, McMurry was in chase contentio for much of the season, he also won his first race for Roush and only his second overall with a dramatic last few laps in Daytonas Pepsi 400. In the end he only beat Kyle Busch by the third closest margin in series history, even after the announcers were calling Kyle Busch home to victory. However, a rough stretch resulted in him missing the chase and not recording a top five for thr rest of the season.
- 2008 started the same way 2007 ended. A horrible first five races led to his No.26 car being outside the top 35 in owners points for the sixth race of the season at Martinsville. Although he got back into the top 35, he continued to struggle mightaly. He missed by an astronomical amount. But the chase was when the team really clicked. He appeared to have the car to beat at Dover until an accident with lapped car Robby Gordon ended his hopes very early. Then, while running near the front at Talladega, he was swept up into the first of two big ones. In the fifth race of the Chase at Lowes Motor Speedway, sight of McMurrys magical first victoy, McMurry returned to the top 5, with a fifth place finish. Then he had an eigen problem while running in the top 5 towards the end of the Fall Martinsville race. McMurry came on very strong in the final 3 races, finishing 3rd in all three. He appeared to have the victoy sealed up at Texas untill teammate Carl Edwards made in to the finish with Jeff Gordon on fuel mileage. Even car owner Jack Roush thought he would be celabrating with McMurry not Edwards in victory lane.
