Joe Nemechek
Born: September 26, 1963 in Lakeland, Fla.

In the family: Nemechek’s brother, John Nemechek, was killed during a Truck Series race in 1997 at Miami-Homestead Speedway when he lost control of his vehicle with 25 laps to go and slammed into the Turn 2 wall, suffering head injuries that left him in a coma for five days before he finally died.

Joe Nemechek won a Busch series race at Miami-Homestead in 1999, and also paid tribute to his brother by naming his son John.

Career highlights:

  • Nemechek won the Busch Series championship in 1992, and made his Cup debut the following year, but he has yet to finish higher than 15th in the standings. He has four career victories in the Cup series.

Trivia: Nemechek earned the nickname “Front Row Joe” because of his excellent qualifying skill.
