Kevin HarvickCar: #29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing in the Nextel Cup Series
Born: December 8, 1975 in Bakersfield, Calif.

Career highlights: Harvick is known for an often aggressive driving style and occasional run-ins with his fellow competitors, both on-and-off the track. He is married to Delana Harvick, who is a familiar presence on the NASCAR scene and dresses in a team fire suit on race days.

  • Harvick had the dubious honor of taking over the famous black GM Goodwrench car after Dale Earnhardt was killed in the 2001 Daytona 500. The number of the car was changed from Earnhardt’s famous #3 to #29. On March 11, Harvick won in his third Cup race, beating Jeff Gordon at Atlanta Motor Speedway by just .006 seconds.

The win was emotional for Earnhardt’s fans, and established Harvick as a suitable replacement for The Intimidator. He won again later that year at Chicagoland Speedway, and captured the Rookie of the Year honors while finishing ninth in the points standings.

  • Harvick struggled in 2002, finishing 21st with one victory, but rebounded in 2003 and finished fifth in the standings with one victory. He has one victory so far in 2006 at Phoenix in Subway 500.

  • In 2003 Kevin won the Brickyard 400 from the pole the only driver ever to do so. He recored 11 top five and 18 top ten finishes enroute to a 5th place points finish in the Cup series. He also won 3 times on the Busch Series circuit.

  • In 2004 Harvick did not win a Cup race and finished 14th in points, he won twice on in the Busch Series.

  • Harvick did the "Bristol Sweep" in April of 2005 winning the Cup and Busch races at Bristol on the same weekend.

  • Harvick is also a regular competitor in the Busch Series, where he and his wife started their own team, Kevin Harvick Inc., which was expanded to the Truck Series in 2004.

  • In 2006 Harvick ran full time in both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series'. Winning 5 races in Cup including the last race before the chase and the first race in the Chase for the Nextel Cup. Harvick finished 4th in the chase for the Nextel Cup. He was the 2006 Nascar Busch series champion, which he won by a record and whopping 824 points. He had the title wrapped up with 4 races remaining in the season. He recored 9 victories, 23 top five and 32 top ten finishes in 35 races. This was his second career Busch series title winning it in the 2001 season.

  • Harvick's 26 Busch series victories puts him 3rd on the All-Time wins list in that series.
