  • In 2000, at age 21, Roush moved Busch up for seven races in the Winston Cup Series. The move was considered controversial because he had no experience racing in the lower Busch Series.

  • In 2001, he ran a full season in the Cup series, collecting three top 5s and a pole at Darlington Raceway. He finished 27th in the standings.

  • In 2002, in only his second season in the Cup series, Busch won four races and finished third in the standings.

  • Busch won another four races in 2003, but had a mediocre year, finishing 11th in the points. 2003 was most notable for his feud with the popular veteran driver Jimmy Spencer. The two got into some bumping during a race at Michigan International Speedway, and, following the race, Spencer punched Busch while he was sitting in his car. The feud did considerable harm to Busch’s reputation with the fans, and he has yet to recover, despite his considerable driving accomplishments.

  • In 2004, Busch won the Nextel Cup Championship in the last race at Miami-Homestead Speedway, defeating Jimmie Johnson by just eight points in the Chase for the Championship

  • Busch’s public image took a further jolt when he was pulled over for suspicion of drunken driving and cited for reckless driving in Maricopa County, Arizona, on November 11, 2005, a few days before the race at Phoenix International Raceway. He was reportedly rude and belligerent to the sheriff’s deputy who pulled him over. The incident was dragged out, and the Maricopa County Sheriff was accused of grandstanding and using Busch to further his image. The sheriff’s department had initially claimed their equipment for sobriety testing had failed and they could not release the results of his drunk driving test – though it was later revealed that Busch had passed the field sobriety test. Regardless, the incident did further damage to his reputation, and he was suspended for the final two races of the season by Roush Racing,Racing, ending his long relationship with Roush because Busch had already signed him to drive for Penske Racing the following year.

  • In the February 2006 issue of GQ, Busch was ranked 3rd on a list of the Top Ten Most Hated Athletes.

2006 so far ... In 2006, Busch took over for Rusty Wallace in the storied #2 Miller Lite Dodge, the “Blue Deuce.” In March, he captured his fifth career victory at Bristol Motor Speedway. In April, his reputation again took a whack when his fiancée, Eva Bryan, was involved in an altercation with Greg Biffle’s girlfriend, Nicole Lunders, after Busch wrecked Biffle early in a race at Texas Motorspeedway.Kurt got married to Eva July 27th.
