In the family: His father, Martin Truex, Sr., was a former champion of the Busch North Series.

Career highlights: Truex is popular with fans, as evidenced by the fact that he was the driver chosen by fans to race in the 2005 Nextel All-Star Challenge. Much of Truex’s early appeal has to do with his association with Dale Earnhardt Jr. The two are close friends, and Truex lived with Earnhardt when he first started racing in the Busch Series.

Truex is said to be dating Sherry Pollex, the daughter of Greg Pollex, who owns PPC Racing, which owns several Busch teams and a Craftsman Truck team

• Truex began to race occasionally in the Busch Series in 2001, but did not race full-time until 2004, when he joined the Chance 2 racing team owned by his close friend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Truex won six races in his rookie season, and captured the Busch Series Championship.

• In 2005, Truex defended his Busch Series title, winning another six races, including the inaugural Busch Series race in Mexico City, the first NASCAR points race ever held outside the United States.

2006 so far ... In 2006, Truex moved full-time to the Nextel Cup series, though he is still expected to race a full season in the Busch Series.
