Dale JR was formally dating Elizabeth Peschock, a 21-year-old from Charlotte. They started dating in early July, but the relationship was "nothing serious". Elizabeth is now being linked with David Stremme. Recently in a gossip mag, there was an article stating he was getting ready to pop the question to former girlfriend Emily Maynard, but the article had numerous errors. Also recently, there was an article stating that Dale and Kelly Clarkson were being hooked up.

Without question, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the most eligible bachelor in NASCAR. His many loves have been the subject of endless speculation in the pits and on internet message boards, but the 33-year-old bachelor shows no signs of settling down any time soon.
Junior has been linked with Emily Maynard, 21, the girlfriend of the late Ricky Hendrick. Hendrick, the son of NASCAR team-owner Rick Hendrick, was killed with nine others in a plane crash in route to a race at Martinsville Speedway in 2004.

Five days after the crash, Maynard learned she was pregnant with Ricky’s child and gave birth to a daughter, Josephine Riddick “Ricki” Hendrick, in June 2005. She became linked with Earnhardt in early 2006 after they were spotted together at a boxing match in Atlantic City.

In the fall of 2005, Junior was spotted with Emily Whitaker, 23, the ex-girlfriend of Shane Hmiel, a close friend of Junior’s and a former NASCAR driver, who was suspended indefinitely after his second drug offense. Whitaker dated Hmiel for nearly three years, before calling it quits in 2005. While there was speculation about the relationship between Junior and Whitaker, there was never any confirmation that it was anything other than a platonic friendship.

From 2004-2006, Junior had a long-distance, occasional relationship with a model named Teresa Lanistassi aka TJ. A regular in television and print commercials, the 31-year-old Lanistassi is a native of Millbrook, New York who currently lives in New York City with her son from a previous marriage to a former NASCAR sponsor executive.

She was first spotted with Junior at a June 2004 race in Dover, and was believed to be spotted again during Speedweeks in Daytona in 2006, though she has also been linked to Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s Entourage. As of lately the two have not been speaking. Teresa has never dated hockey player, Zach Parise, nor have they ever met.

In 2004, Junior had what was perhaps his most public, if short-lived, relationship, when he began dating 19-year-old Kortnie Coles while being followed by a reality television crew for the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. Junior met the beautiful and buxom Coles at Texas Motor Speedway in April, and was shown checking her out as she waited outside his hauler for his autograph. He then asked her for her autograph. The two were filmed together the following week at Martinsville Speedway, but the relationship ended shortly thereafter. There were rumors that Coles was a “pit lizard” on the prowl for a driver boyfriend, and she was apparently seen in a 2001 show on MTV called True Life: I’m a Race Car Driver running around the pits expressing her desire to land a driver. Coles is currently a pre-school teacher in Houston, Texas.

In 2003, Junior was romantically linked with Leeann Tweeden, a former Playmate, Frederick’s of Hollywood model, and television host. A native of Manassas, Virginia, Tweeden has also been linked to NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray, surfer Shane Dorian, baseball players Josh Beckett and Scott Erickson, and road-racer Ben Bostrom. In 2001, Tweeden became a correspondent on the Fox Sports television show The Best **** Sports Show, and in 2005 she became an anchor of NASCAR Nation, a nightly entertainment-themed show on the Speed Channel.

From 2002-2003, Junior dated Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller. The California native was discovered surfing in Santa Barbara in 2001 by the famous photographer Mario Testino, and she quickly gained supermodel status, appearing in the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue later that same year.

Miller met Earnhardt when he took her for a spin around Daytona Speedway as part of a feature for the 2003 swimsuit issue.

And although many people don't know about this, Earnhardt Jr. also dated rapper and singer Lisa Lopes, member of R&B and hip hop group TLC, for a short time before her death in April 2002. Earnhardt paid tribute to Lopes after her death by painting a stripe next to the left headlight decal on his #8 car for the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

In the fall of 2000, Junior had a brief relationship with Shannon Wiseman, a UNC-Charlotte grad who would later become Miss Winston. Wiseman gained notoriety when she finished second in MTV’s Wannabe a VJ3 contest. Junior asked a mutual friend to introduce them.

At the time, Wiseman had a boyfriend, so she declined when Junior asked her out. But in the fall of 2000, Junior co-hosted a show on WEND 106.5 in Charlotte, where Wiseman was an intern. The show’s host, Kristen Honeycutt, asked Junior about his failed attempt to get a date with Wiseman, and during a commercial break Wiseman called in to say that he simply hadn’t tried hard enough.

The two dated for a brief period shortly thereafter. Wiseman became familiar to race fans in 2002 when she was chosen to be Miss Winston, one of the famed spokesgals for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco that were always present in Victory Lane to plant a kiss on the winner. Later, Wiseman became a television reporter and currently serves as a correspondent for NASCAR.com.

The crew chief for Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Team, Chad Knaus has been dating Brazilian beauty queen Bruna Oliveira for the past three years. Born in Rio de Janiero and raised in Massachusetts, Oliveira competed in the Miss Brazil-USA pageant and was named Miss Photenia. She currently resides with Knaus in Mooresville, N.C., where she works as a pilates instructor. The couple have two Shih Tzu dogs, Liam and Leila.

Sadly, they parted ways in the fall of 2008, same year they got engaged.

Sadly, Knaus moved on shortly after the breakup to Lisa Rockelmann. Lisa currently reside with Knaus in his new home in Cornelius, N.C. Lisa attened the 2008 Cup banquet with Knaus, and can be seen regularly at the races with him this season.

Denny Hamlin, the driver of the #11 Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing, has been dating Kristin Buntain for the past seven years. The two were high school sweethearts in Chesterfield, Virginia, and in 2005, Buntain quit her job to move to North Carolina to be with Hamlin. The couple is rumored to have parted ways.

Denny is now rumored to be dating several other people, including Amanda Gilliland, the younger sister of Nextel Cup driver David Gilliland.

Denny is now dating a girl named Jordan.

Greg Zipadelli, the crew chief for Tony Stewart and the #20 Joe Gibbs Chevrolet, met his wife, Nan, in Old Forge, New York in 1995. Nan, who was a high school teacher at the time, knew nothing about racing, and when Greg told her he was a crew chief from Hartford, she thought he said that he went to Harvard and that a crew chief had something to do with rowing.

The couple have two children: Zachary Charles, born in 2001; and Elwina “Elli” Sophia, born shortly after Zipadelli and Stewart won their second Nextel Cup title in 2005.

Jeff Gordon is currently married to Ingrid Vandebosch, a stunning Belgian model. They met through mutual friends and were dating while she was filming the movie Taxi, in which Vandebosch played a bank robber. Gordon made a cameo at her request, they have been together for over two years. She is a regular companion of his during race weekends.

The two were married in a private ceremony in Mexico. Family members of both Vandebosch, who was born in Belgium, and Gordon were present at the celebration. The newlyweds "honeymooned" in Phoenix, Ariz., and Miami, Fla., - site of the final two events of the 2006 NASCAR season - before attending the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup banquet in New York in December. Their official honeymoon occured after the season ended at an undisclosed location.

Brian Vickers has been linked to Mara Kadish since 2005. Kadish attended one of Vickers’ races in 2005 and accompanied him to the Champions’ Week in New York City. The couple reportedly vacationed in Brazil during the off-season before the 2006 season.

This couple is also rumored to have parted ways.

Vickers had previously dated Ivonne Macias, a model and actress who has appeared in the film Story of Us and on television shows such as NYPD Blue. Born in 1971, Macias is more than a decade older than Vickers.

Kyle Busch has been dating 23-year-old Erica Dewey, a 2004 graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, since he entered Nextel Cup in 2005. Dewey won the 2004 Miss Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant and competed in the Miss Pennsylvania contest.

This couple parted ways late summer 2007.

Kyle is now dating Samantha Sarcinella.

In 2001, Elliott Sadler got engaged to Lisa Tollett on the fourth anniversary of their first meeting. That same year, Tollett won the Miss Tennessee pageant and finished in the top 10 at the Miss USA Pageant. The two met at Bristol Motor Speedway, where Tollett was serving as the race queen for the Food City 250. The couple split up a few years later, but reportedly remain close friends. In 2004, Tollett, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, was a cheerleader for the Carolina Panthers. She currently works as a drug rep. Her twin sister, Lori Tollett White, is a former girlfriend of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

In Spring 2006, Elliot Sadler met a blonde bombshell model from France. Known by most as CS, she dazzles Eupore in many print ads. The two continued their affair until late fall 2006. They saw each other when her time allowed. Splitting time between the Bahamas, Florida, North Carolina, France and her career, the pair finally split due to each's busy schdule. CS, born in Brazil, to parents Tyrie and Anne, she graduated high school in Texas with honors then went on to continue her career. She enjoys hockey, soccer, and cricket, along with spending time with family and friends. It is unclear how the 2 met, but it is believed through a mutal friend.

Elliott Sadler's current girlfriend is Amanda Prince. The two Emporia, VA natives have been going out for several months, but have known each other for some time. Amanda is a V-Tech graduate and a kindergarten teacher since 2005.

Nextel Cup driver and two-time Busch Series Champion, Martin Truex Jr. is rumored to be close to an engagement with Sherry Pollex, the daughter of Greg Pollex, who owns ppc Racing, which owns several Busch teams and a Craftsman Truck team. The two have been dating since late summer 2005. Sherry Pollex previously dated Busch Series driver Jon Wood. She works for a motorsports public relations firm.

Currently it is a mystery who Kasey Kahne is dating. However he has been linked to Budwieser girl Anne Marie Johnson who currently resides in Raliegh North Carolina.

Kahne had a long term relationship with Ohio-native Jenny Severance that began in Nov/2007. Kahne and the single mother ended their relationship in August of 2008.
Since early 2007 Kasey had been dating Ashley Miller, PR for Brian Vicker's #83 Red Bull team. This couple has recently parted ways.

In the summer of 2004, Ashley Speegle, a gorgeous Virginia Tech student, was featured as a Kasey Kahne fan in a USA Today article about how NASCAR was becoming popular with women. A few months later, Speegle and Kahne began dating, though it’s unclear how Speegle went from a fan to a sweetheart. The two dated for approximately nine months in 2005, but reportedly broke up in the off-season.

Kahne previously had a short relationship with Kristy Labonte, the daughter of NASCAR driver Terry Labonte. The two were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360 taking a ski vacation in Vail, Colorado, but had apparently broken up by the time the show aired.

Kahne had a short relationship with VU student Britney Hagy in Spring/Summer of 2006. They were spotted together at the NASCAR pit crew challenge. Britney was also named the Food City Queen. She's a member of the Tri-Delts at VU

Jeremy Mayfield has been married to Shana Sessions Mayfield since early 2003. The two met in 1999 at Darlington Speedway. They were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360, where they portrayed themselves as homebodies who kept to themselves.

Carl Edwards and Fiance Katharine (Kate) Downey
Carl Edwards, who nearly won the Nextel Cup title in his rookie season in 2005, was dating Amanda Beard, the Olympic gold medal swimmer who is pursuing a career in modeling. The two met at California Motor Speedway on Labor Day in 2004 -- just after Beard won her gold medal in the 200-meter breastroke at the Athens games -- but didn’t begin dating until the following February when they were reintroduced by Amy Van Dyken, a fellow gold medalist and mutual friend of both Edwards and Beard. Beard lives in Tucson, Arizona, where she is finishing her degree at the University of Arizona.The two called it quits earlier this year, because she couldn't handle the NASCAR lifestyle. Amanda Beard will be marrying her boyfriend of 3 years, Sacha Brown.
Carl is now dating Kate Downey.

Kevin Harvick married Delana Linville Harvick on February 28, 2001 in Las Vegas, just days before he took over driving the Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing following the death of Dale Earnhardt (the number of the car was changed from 3 to 29 after Earnhardt’s death).

The two met during driver introductions in 1999, but did not begin dating until they were reintroduced at a Christmas party that year at Richard Childress Racing. Their romance was a secret until they got engaged, almost a year to the day from their first date. Delana is now listed as the car owner for the Busch and Craftsman Truck series teams fielded by Kevin Harvick, Inc.

Delana Harvick is often the subject of teasing due to the fact that she wears a team firesuit on race days. No other NASCAR wives or girlfriends do this.

Two-time Nextel Cup Champion Tony Stewart was engaged for a short time to Krista Dwer in 1999. The two hadhad an on-again, off-again relationshipfor many years.Krista lives in North Carolina and had custody ofMojo, the famous monkey (who apparently now resides in a zoo) that she and Stewart acquired while they were a together.

Stewart's next relationship was withJaime Schaffer, a calendar modelandemployee of No Fear Racing. It was Jaime who accompanied Tony to Championship week in New York in 2005 and later to thewhite house for his first presidential visit to meet President George W Bush. The couple called it quits after she found Tony'sanger-management problem to be intolerable. He later said in anESPN interview he was sorry for the break up and felt shewas the "one that got away."

Tony Stewartrecently broke it off for the second time with Tara Roquemore, (pictured here fishing with Tony) a former Home Depot employee from Hiram, Georgia. Also known as Tara Gentry prior to her divorce from Marty after only 4 years of marriage. It was largely speculated in 2006 when Tony missed the top 10 and Chase it was largely due to hisstress over he and Tara's relationship. It became obvious after her divorce that Tarawanted more than gf status after disolving her marriage, and ultimatelylosing her job with Home Depot fortaking too much time off. Friends said it left Tony feeling "obligated to provide for herfull time."Her first public appearance with Tony was at the NASCAR Martinsville Cup race on October 22, 2006, just days after her divorce was final from Marty Gentry. Fans called it her "coming out party". Nowadays it is rumored that she is dating another driver, however this is yet to be confirmed.

Darlington 2008 weekend brought about a couple of firsts forTony Stewart, his first ever victory at the hands of "The Lady in Black" and the "maiden voyage" of his girlfriend, who you may recognize. It's Renee White former Miss Winston, ex-wife of Derrick Cope and ex-girlfriend of Robby Gordon.
It is now rumored that Tony is single, he and Renee remain friends.

2004 NASCAR Nextel Champion Kurt Busch and Eva Bryan met on a blind date in July 2003, immediately following a race at Poco no. The friend who set them up told Bryan that Busch was a veterinarian, not a race car driver, because she didn’t think Bryan would show up to meet a “redneck racer.” But Busch finished second in that race, and was very late for the date because he had to do several media interviews. Kurt says she thankfully waited, and the two hit it off. She didn’t even back out when she ultimately learned what he really did for a living. In 2005 the couple became engaged after Busch popped the question during a trip to Prague to watch a Formula One race. They later tied the knot exactly three years to the date they first met on July 27, 2006.

Jimmie Johnson is married to model Chandra Janway Johnson, an Oklahoma native and graduate of the University of Oklahoma. They were introduced in 2002 by Jeff Gordon, and Johnson proposed the following year on a mountain top in Beaver Creek, Colorado during a ski vacation. They were married on December 11, 2004 in St. Barts, and honeymooned on a 150-foot yacht owned by Rick Hendrick, Johnson’s team owner.

At the 2005 Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony in New York City, comedian Jay Mohr teased Johnson for how much better-looking his wife is than he. “That wasn’t exactly a lateral move,” he said.

Ryan Newman met his wife, Krissie Boyle Newman, in 2001 on a blind date set up by Krissie’s grandmother and a church friend. A graduate of Shippensburg University with a degree in criminal science, Krissie was clerking for a North Carolina judge at the time and reportedly did not know what a stock car was. They married just before the start of the 2004 season and honeymooned in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Newmans are actively involved with animal-related causes, and have several rescue dogs.

Jamie McMurray is now married to Christy Futrell. Congrats to the happy couple!!!

Jamie McMurray and Katie Wallace, daughter of former Nextel Cup star Rusty Wallace, dated for about a year from 2004-05. Their budding romance was captured during an episode of the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. In that episode, Rusty Wallace, who had installed McMurray as the driver of his Busch Series car, noted that every time he turned around, McMurray was checking out his daughter. The two broke up some time in 2005. Katie Wallace is a student at Wake Forest University.

Greg Biffle and Nicole Lunders dated for several years before Greg popped the question over the 2006 Christmas Holiday. Together the couple share a passion for animals; and work tirelessly for the benefit of local animal shelters and Humane Societies. Nicole is often found at events to benefit The Greg Biffle Foundation, which each year publishes the wildly popular NASCAR Pets calendar featuring drivers and their pets to raise funds to support the many animal shelter programs in need across the country. Together they have two very well known boxers Foster and Gracie who commonly can be found at every race or in many various advertising campaigns including Subway and Milk Bone Dog Bones.

Clint Bowyer had been dating Athena Barber for over 3 years. Clint and Athena met when Clint was racing against her father in the midwest.

Clint and Athena split up shortly after the 2007 championship banquet.

Clint is now dating Lorra Podsiadllo.

Athena is expecting her first child - a boy - on January 19, 2010. She was dating Robby Gordon, owner of Robby Gordon Motorsports around time of conception and states he is the father, however, Robby Gordon declines to comment.

Matt Kenseth, the 2003 Winston Cup Champion, has been married since 2000 to Katie Kenseth, a fellow Wisconsonite. The two met at a mutual friend’s wedding in their homestate, and married in the Carribean.

Congratulations to Katie and Matt who are expecting a baby in July! When asked through a pre-race interview a month ago, Matt stated they chose not to find out the sex of the baby..Matt has a teenage son, Ross, from a previous marriage...Congrats to the new coming parents!

Kaylin Nicola Kenseth was born on July 6th, 2009 to Matt and Katie Kenseth! Congratulations to the happy couple.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Casey Mears is currently dating Trisha Grablander.
Casey and Trisha are currently expecting their first child, a girl, due in October.
In the past he was linked to Britney Glover and Melissa Joan Hart.

Congratulations to Casey and Trisha on the birth of their daughter, Samantha Mae Mears, on October 7, 2008. Little Samantha was born at 12:42 p.m. and weighed 8 lbs., 7 oz and was 20 3/4 inches long.

NASCAR Newlyweds..

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Johnny Sauter and longtime girlfriend Cortney Owen wed on December 15, 2007. The Wisconsin natives, who met at a motor sports charity banquet in January 2004, and had been dating since 2005. Johnny, who made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2001, is currently seeking a full time Sprint cup ride for the 2008 season.
Cortney is a former Miss Wisconsin USA and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater,currently employed by Co-Pilott Motorsports Marketing serving as Public Relations Manager for Menards Racing and driver, Paul Menard. Many well wishes for years to come to the happy couple!

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jason Leffler and Alison Courtney East were married in Hawaii on Dec. 11, 2001. Alison is the daughter of open-wheel chassis builder, and USAC team owner, Bob East, well known in the racing world for his Beast Midget chassis. Brother Bobby holds the record for the youngest USAC National Midget champion. Sister Amy is an ESPN pit reporter and is married to NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Terry Cook. The couple welcomed their first child Charlie Dean Leffler August 16, 2007 at 6 lbs., 9oz. They share their Mooresville, NC home with their two yellow labs, Daphne and Chloe.

The two-mile D-shaped oval at California Speedway, located 50-miles west of Los Angeles, joined the Nextel Cup schedule in 1997 and added a second race in 2004.

The track is a favorite for Hollywood celebrities, who flock to the pits each year.
California Speedway has a history that you might expect a track just 50 miles from Hollywood to have.

The speedway sits on a 568-acre site that once hosted the first steel mill located west of the Rocky Mountains, Kaiser Steel Mill. The mill produced the steel that helped build the Liberty ships used by the Allies to win World War II.

Kaiser Steel went out of business in 1983. Following that, the site fell into such disrepair that it was used in the movie The Terminator to portray a post-Apocalyptic world where men and machines battled each other for supremacy and survival.

Penske Motorsports Inc. purchased the land and completed the track in 1997. The first race held on the track was a Winston West Series race won by Ken Schrader on June 21, 1997. Later that day, Mark Martin won an International Race of Champions event at the new facility. Jeff Gordon won the track's first Cup race the following day.

California Speedway has also played host to races in the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, as well as events in the IndyCar Series and what is now the ChampCar World Series on its oval and road racing and motorcycle events on its road courses.

In 1999, Penske Motorsports Inc. merged with International Speedway Corporation, bringing California Speedway into the ISC family of tracks. Beginning in 2004, California Speedway's two-mile oval became the host of two NASCAR Cup Series races each year, adding a Labor Day weekend event to is roster of activities.

Kansas Speedway

The 1.5-mile tri-oval at Kansas Speedway, built in 2001, helped bring NASCAR racing to the Midwest. Jeff Gordon won the first Cup series race at the track.In 1996, International Speedway Corporation began exploring the idea of building a track in the Midwest. Bonds were sold in 1998 and construction on the 1.5-mile tri-oval began a year later.

Tickets for the 2001 season went on sale on Aug. 17, 2000 -- and within a week, nearly 80 percent of the season tickets had been sold. Paving on the track begin in September of that year and construction was completed in the spring of 2001.

Jeff Gordon won the first two Cup events there, starting with the inaugural race on Sept. 29, 2001.

Dover International Speedway

Affectionately known as “The Monster Mile,” Dover International Speedway opened in 1969 as a unique dual-purpose facility, as it was designed to accommodate both horse racing and auto racing.

Richard Petty won the first Winston Cup race at the track, on July 6, 1969, just over a month before the youth of the nation gathered at Woodstock.

Dover International Raceway is unique in NASCAR in that it is a concrete track, as opposed to asphalt. The track is known for being exceptionally hard on tires and cars thanks to the concrete and its short straightaways and hard breaking.

With seating for 140,000, Dover International Speedway is the largest sporting facility in the mid-Atlantic region.

Dover Downs, the horsetrack that is co-located with the race track, is one of the more prestigious horse-racing tracks in the country, and the racing complex also includes other forms of gambling.

Cup races at Dover were 500-miles long until 1997, when NASCAR passed a rule that 500-mile races could only take place at tracks over 1 mile in length. Cup races at Dover are now 400 miles.

The way to best illustrate the early history of Dover International Speedway would be to look at the list of winners in the track's early years as a site for Cup racing. From 1969 through '80, 21 of the 22 Cup races at Dover International Speedway were won by drivers who either already had or would go on to win championships in NASCAR's top series.

The names of those winners are part of the fabric of the sport -- Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Benny Parsons and Darrell Waltrip. Allison and Petty rank first on the all-time winner's list at Dover International Speedway with seven victories apiece.

About 3,200 seats were added in 1982. Each following year until 1998, more seats were added.

In 1995, the track's surface was switched to concrete -- making it the first all-concrete superspeedway in the sport. The unique look of the white concrete surface still makes Doverýs appearance unique among the sport's bigger tracks.

Dover hosted the first Cup race held after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Dale Earnhardt Jr. got the win that day and took a giant American flag on a victory lap.

Where to stay:Tilton and Belmont offers a good area to stay because it's only 10 to 15 minutes away from Louden. I live here in New Hamphire for a few years.

Where to eat: In Tilton, There's a few resteraunts that are nice along route 3. Like the Tilton Diner , Applebee's and a few places in downtown Tilton.

Sidetrips:Also in Tilton, there are some nice shops in Tilton and Franklin NH. I'm a NASCAR fan who knows a few things about a few places around the track. Stephen Foster.

In the family: His father, Bob, was an off-road racing legend.

Career highlights: Robby Gordon began his career in off-road racing, winning several championships.

Gordon is known for his aggressive driving style, incredible car control, and for controversy on and off the track.

In 1990, Gordon began racing sports cars, where he had considerable success. In 1992, he began racing Indy Cars, and raced full time in the Indy Car series from 1993-1996, capturing two wins. In 1998 and 1999, Gordon fielded his own Indy team, but with limited success. He ultimately left open-wheel racing for safety concerns, claiming that Indy Cars are too fast and dangerous to run on oval tracks.

In 1991, he made his first NASCAR Cup Series start in the Daytona 500, and ran in the serried occasionally until 1997, when he ran 22 races for Team SABCO. He returned again in 2000 and ran a half season with his own team, though his results were again disappointing.

In 2001, he ran a few races for Morgan McClure, then signed on with Richard Childress Racing at the end of the year and won a controversial race at New Hampshire International Speedway in which he was accused of spinning out Jeff Gordon for the victory.

In 2003, he won at Infineon Raceway after he passed his teammate, Kevin Harvick, under caution. He won again in 2003 at the series’ other road course, Watkins Glen.

In 2004, he started his own Busch Series team, which he moved up to the Cup Series in 2005, at which time he left Richard Childress Racing. Gordon gained national attention in 2005 when he got into an on-track altercation with Michael Waltrip. After he climbed out of his wrecked vehicle, he waited for Waltrip to pass and threw his helmet at him, and then proceeded to call Waltrip a “piece of s**t” in an interview on TNT just after the crash. The helmet was later auctioned off for charity, and was purchased for $51,100 by the online casino GoldenPalace.com.

The world’s fastest half-mile, Bristol Motorspeedway is as good as racing gets. The .533-mile track features an incredible 36 degrees of banking in the turns, allowing drivers to whip around the track and producing some of the best racing on the circuit. Known as Thunder Valley for the amount of noise created in the bowl shaped track, Bristol Motorspeedway is the largest sports arena in the world, with seating for more than 160,000.

Drivers and fans love Bristol for the beating and banging that happen every race. It’s rare for a car to leave Bristol without suffering some sort of collision.

The land, upon which Bristol Motor Speedway is built, used to be a dairy farm.

Larry Carrier and Carl Moore traveled to Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1960 to watch a race and it was then that they decided to build a speedway in Northeast Tenn. However, they wanted a smaller model of CMS, something with a more intimate setting and opted to erect a half-mile facility instead of mirroring the 1.5-mile track in Charlotte.

Work began on what was then called Bristol International Speedway in 1960 and it took approximately one year to finish. Track officials scratched many ideas for the track on envelopes and brown paper bags.

The land on which BMS now sits, as well as construction of the track, cost approximately $600,000. The entire layout for BMS covered 100 acres and provided parking for more than 12,000 cars. The track itself was a perfect half-mile, measuring 60 feet wide on the straightaways, 75 feet wide in the turns and the turns were banked at 22 degrees.

Seating capacity for the very first NASCAR race at BMS, held on July 30, 1961, was 18,000. Prior to this race, the speedway had hosted weekly races. The first driver on the track for practice on July 27, 1961 was Tiny Lund in his Pontiac. The second driver out was David Pearson. Fred Lorenzen won the pole for the first race at BMS with a speed of 79.225 mph.

Atlanta's Jack Smith won the inaugural event, The Volunteer 500, at BMS on July 30, 1961.

In the fall of 1969 BMS was reshaped and re-measured. The turns were banked at 36 degrees and it became a .533-mile oval.

The speedway was sold after the 1976 season to Lanny Hester and Gary Baker. In the spring of 1978, the track name was changed to Bristol International Raceway. In August of that year, the first night race was held on the oval.

On July 6, 1983, Warner Hodgdon completed 100 percent purchase of Bristol Motor Speedway. Hodgdon named Larry Carrier as the track's general manager. On January 11, 1985, Warner Hodgdon filed for bankruptcy.

After Hodgdon filed for bankruptcy, Larry Carrier formally took possession of the speedway and covered all outstanding debts.

In Aug. 1992, BMS became the first fully concrete speedway to host a Cup event.

On Jan. 22, 1996, Larry Carrier sold the speedway to Bruton Smith at a purchase price of $26 million. At the time of the sale, the facility seated 71,000.

On May 28, 1996 the track's name was officially changed to Bristol Motor Speedway. By August of that year, 15,000 seats had been added bringing the seating capacity to 86,000.

For the August 1998 Goody's 500 the speedway featured more than 131,000 grandstand seats and 100 skyboxes. On Aug. 26, 2002 work began on the most ambitious construction project since Speedway Motorsports, Inc., purchased BMS in 1996. The new backstretch increased the venue's seating capacity to more than 160,000.

I was lucky enough to see 3 races at BMS and all were the night time events during the summers of 1991-1993. A friend of mine was going through a nasty divorce the first year, that being the main reason for my going. he sold me his tickets, enough on that but anyone who knows much about BMS will tell you that getting good tickets at Bristol is almost as good as winning at the Daytona 500. The seats we had were on the start/finish line and some 50 rows up, that gave a clear view of the entire track. If you've never been to Bristol and get the chance to go by the gods shining down on you then GO! During the years I went the seating capacity was close to 70,000, to see that many people packed into an area around a 1/2 mile track. It was like being at a coliseum in ancient Rome and the drivers were gladiators getting ready to have a chariot race. But at speeds reaching up to 120-130 mph and the cars are nose to tail for 500 laps, it has also been likened to "flying fighter jets in a gymnasium". Be sure and take some ear plugs or get a good set of sound dampening heading phones. Cause the sound is unbelievably loud, so loud that the only time you talk to others or your partner is during a caution. Otherwise during green flag racing, you can scream or yell as loud as you can and no one can hear you.
At that time our tickets were $65.00 a piece which really isn't bad at all, I hear the same seats today are selling for $95.00 - $110.00 a piece, and they are worth every dollar spent.
Alan Kulwicki won the first race that I saw there, and he finished 13th in the points that year. In 1992 my favorite driver, 12 time winner at Bristol, Darrell Waltrip won that night and Alan Kulwicki won the championship that year. In 1993 driver Mark Martin took the pole and won the race which was a memory that I will never forget. I have some pictures of those races and others from different tracks I went to over the years. I will try to round them up and scan them to post here.

Where to stay:

There are several motels in and around Bristol , now getting a room in one of them is another story. Reservations are booked up years in advance. There are also a few campgrounds nearby that have hookups for motor homes, if you choose to go that route. Most people stay in nearby Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge,TN and others even get rooms in Knoxville,TN. The smartest thing to do would be to check on a place to stay before you even try to get tickets. NASCAR’s fastest track, Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54-mile quad-oval with 24-degree banking in the turns. From a driver’s standpoint, Atlanta is considered NASCAR’s scariest track to drive because it is basically flat-out the entire way around.

In 2004, an F2 tornado hit the track, causing millions in damage, but the track’s owners were able to repair most of the damage in time for the Nextel Cup race four months later. Few who saw Atlanta Motor Speedway in its infancy would recognize the track today.

Situated on 870 acres in Hampton, Ga., just 25 miles south of Atlanta, today's Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of NASCARýs most sought-after destinations.

But itýs far from the Walker Jackson, Lloyd Smith, Garland Bagley, Ralph Sceiano and Ike Supporter envisioned when they planned the speedway in 1958. Before construction of the proposed superspeedway had been completed, insufficient funds forced four of the founders to abandon ship. Dr. Warren Gremmel, Bill Boyd, Jack Black and Art Lester joined Bagley in the venture and spent $1.8 million to get the facility ready.

Ready, in this case, was a relative term. Some of the seats were so low fans couldnýt see over the retaining wall. The only bathroom facility in the infield was a three-hole outhouse. There was mud all over.

When the 1.5-mile track, then called Atlanta International Raceway, finally made its debut on July 31, 1960, it became the seventh superspeedway -- a paved facility of one mile or more -- to play host to a Cup race.

The trackýs future was hazy in the 1960s and ý70s, when it suffered several financial setbacks. The track was recognized under Chapter Ten bankruptcy proceedings in the 1970s and went through several general managers before settling down with Walt Nix, who served as general manager for much of the next two decades except for a brief period when current NASCAR president Mike Helton was in charge.

Despite the great racing and national attention, Atlanta International Raceway was still a meager facility struggling to get by.

Bruton Smith changed all that when he purchased Atlanta International Raceway on Oct. 23, 1990, and renamed the facility Atlanta Motor Speedway. A year later, the addition of the East Turn Grandstand expanded the seating capacity by 25,000, and the 30 suites that rimmed the top gave the track a high-class look.

Under Smithýs stewardship, Atlanta Motor Speedway has undergone massive expansion.

In 1994, Tara Place, the nine-story building that houses 46 luxury condominiums, Tara Ballroom, the speedway office complex and more luxury suites opened, as did the adjacent Tara Clubhouse. A year later, the North Turn Grandstand opened, and in 1997, the Champions Grandstand was added, and the total of luxury suites was increased to 137.

When the Champions Grandstand was built, the start/finish line was moved from the west to the east side of the track, and two doglegs were added to the frontstretch to form a 1.54-mile quad-oval, which replaced the original oval. The only reminders of the track that used to be are the suite tower and the Weaver Grandstand, which are now situated on the backstretch.

In 2004, an F2 tornado had blazed through the track, causing tens of millions of dollars in damage less than four months before that yearýs fall race. Miraculously, the track was more than ready for that October race, and it went off without a hitch.

Michigan International Speedway boasts a proud 37-year history of hosting America's best racing action on its 1,400-plus acres in the scenic Irish Hills. With 18 degree banking and 73-foot wide sweeping turns, Michigan International Speedway provides drivers with three and four grooves to run around the two-mile speedway.

When Michigan International Speedway opened in 1968, the 12,000-seat center grandstand stood overlooking the new two-mile oval, a symbol of a new era for the Irish Hills area. With smaller grandstands on each side, the track proudly boasted 25,000 seats.

No one at the time suspected it was the start of something much, much bigger.

Since its opening, the success of the speedway and the growth of motorsports has made Michigan International Speedway the largest sports arena in Michigan. The center grandstand was extended in 1985, in 1989, and again in 1990 to seat over 27,000. In 1999, a 28,000-seat, 10-1/2-story high structure was added to the center grandstand, increasing the number of seats to 55,000-more than four times its original size.

In 1990, the first of two of the seven grandstands in turn one were erected, and in 1992, the first North Concourse grandstands (turn four) were built. By 1997, the eighth North Concourse grandstand was built in turn three.

Over the last decade, Michigan International Speedway has increased its reserved seating capacity by 82,000, and since 1985, the Speedway has increased its seating by nearly five times.

In 2004, the track added the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) walls to the track to make it safer for all drivers competing at MIS.

In 2005, MIS took on the largest renovation in its storied history by adding 870 additional seats with a new Club Level seating area called the Champions Club. The addition increased the seating capacity to 137,243. The renovation project included a reconfiguration of the frontstretch area, which added new ticket gates, vendor and display areas, several new concession stands, and a new skylounge structure high above the main grandstand near the start/finish line. The skylounge area holds 16 suites, press box, timing & scoring area, television and radio broadcast area, and race control for use by the sanctioning bodies.

After more than 37 years of improvements and updates, Michigan International Speedway is still considered one of the country's premier racing facilities.

Daytona is the birthplace of NASCAR, and home to its most famous race and racetrack, and the largest ball of twine, the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway. Each February, Daytona plays host to speedweeks, culminating in the running of the Daytona 500, the “Great American Race.” Daytona also hosts a night race on Fourth of July weekend, the Coke-Zero 400.

NASCAR requires that cars at Daytona and Talladega, the two superspeedways on the Nextel Cup circuit, use horsepower-sapping restrictor plates on their carburetors in an effort to contain speeds. The restrictor plates cause the cars to bunch together in packs and draft off each other, which leads to exciting racing and often results in “the big one,” a large crash that can take out dozens of cars.
Daytona International Speedway opened in 1959, but the history of auto racing at Daytona goes back much farther than that.

In 1936, the precursor to today's Daytona 500 was born on a course that went down 1.5 miles of highway, then turned and came the same distance back up the beach.

William H.G. France, a mechanic and racer who'd moved south from Washington, D.C., eventually took over the job of running the beach races on the second of two courses used for those events. In 1947, he presided over a meeting at Daytona's Streamline Hotel where NASCAR was born.

A decade later, France began working on his showplace.

"Big Bill" France was building it, he insisted on 31-degree banking in the corners. That's as steep as he could make the turns and still keep the machines putting down the asphalt from tipping over.

When drivers gathered for the first Daytona 500, it was an eye-popping experience. Drivers were more accustomed to half-mile dirt tracks and saw the 1.366-mile paved track at Darlington as vast. A trip around Daytona International Speedway was 2.5 miles -- nearly twice that.

Bob Welborn ran 140.121 mph to win the pole for the first Daytona 500, and Lee Petty won in a photo finish over Johnny Beauchamp.

It was at Daytona International Speedway where Junior Johnson discovered that if he tucked his car right behind another one, he could go faster than he could run by himself. And drafting became a part of the sport.

It was at Daytona where Cale Yarborough topped 200 mph on his first qualifying lap in 1983 and then, as he went even faster on a second lap, his car took off and flew, turning upside down before crashing.

Bill Elliott set the Daytona track record in 1987, running 210.364 mph, just before restrictor plates were introduced to the sport.

The Daytona 500, considered NASCAR's biggest event, has played host to some of NASCAR's greatest moments -- and maybe its greatest tragedy.

Many considered the 1976 Daytona 500 as the greatest race of all time.

Richard Petty won seven Daytona 500s on his way to becoming "The King," but lost in '76 to rival David Pearson after they wrecked coming to the finish line and Pearson puttered across the finish line bumping his car along with his ignition.

In 1998, in his 20th try, seven-time Cup series champion Dale Earnhardt finally won the Daytona 500. Sadly, three years later, Earnhardt died in a Turn 4 crash in the 2001 running. It was a moment that changed the sport forever.

In addition to the Daytona 500, the track hosts the Pepsi 400 each July along with the Rolex 24, Americaýs premier endurance race, and annual motorcycle races that are the centerpiece of Daytona's Bike Week.

Daytona International Speedway renovated its infield before the 2005 Daytona 500 to add a "Fan Zone" that allows fans to buy tickets giving them one of the best up-close views of a NASCAR garage and other special amenities.

Race Experiences...

I've been to a lot of races in Daytona, both before and after the infield renovation. I am happy to tell you, this track is simply awesome. If you know how to handle it, you can have a great time. The FanZone is worth the upgrade in your ticket. On Cup race days, it's going to be packed, so it's better if you can settle for a Cup or Truck day. It makes it easy to meet your favorite drivers, and just watching the drivers and teams from the top of the garage area is great in itself. If you can, try and pay the extra money for a frontstretch ticket. it's hard to see from the backstretch, and if you have a front stretch ticket, you won't be dissapointed. You can see more of the track than you would think,. trust me I've sat in almost every area there. I'm partial to Segrave myself. A great thing for people making a trip out of it, is Daytona USA. It's pretty simple, but every race fan should visit it at least once. They have the IMAX 3-D movie playing all the time, and simulators galore. It's just a cool experience for the whole family. Be warned race fans, this track is HUGE. deciding to take a walk to the other side of the track means you will need to walk back. Luckily, there are track workers with golf carts that will gladly drive you to another part of the grandstand you are in. I'm young, and in shape, and last years Pepsi 400 about killed me from walking around out there. Here is one last bit of advice for novice track attenders. Parking, its a hassel, theres just no way around it. You either pay a lot of money or go through a lot of walking and trouble to get back to your vehicle. There is a free parking lot.. a park and ride. If you really want to save the money, go ahead, but be warned that getting back to the lot is extremely tiresome. The wait for the bus is insane, crowded and long. Pretty much everyone ends up frustrated, including the workers, so if you can afford it, pay the money to park at a shopping center nearby. That's all the tips I have for you right now, I'm going back in 2 days, maybe I'll remember more to let you in on.

Park in Lot 10...Take the bus there and walk back to your car after the race!! It only takes less then an hour for a drunk fat man to walk it!! It's quicker then you think.....and really quick compared to waiting in the lines for the bus to drop you off at th field and walk back to your car and then...ha ha ha.....theat's not even talking about all the people that are already in the cars and out in the TRAFFIC PARKING LOT!!....you'll see...that's not a typo!!!!

The 2.45-mile road course at Watkins Glen in upstate New York has been a road-racing mecca since 1948. After a hiatus, the Cup series returned to the road-course in 1986.

i ve been there in 1992. the race lasted 5 hours due to rain and only 51 laps were completed out of 91.most laps were under caution, and kyle petty won.

Pocono Raceway is perhaps the most unique track on the Cup circuit. Triangular in shape and 2.5-miles in length, Pocono is referred to as the superspeedway that races like a road course. The track is essentially three long straightaways, including the longest straightaway in NASCAR, separated by three hairpin, road-course style turns.

Since 1974, Pocono has remained a challenge for Cup series crew chiefs, who struggle to get the chassis set-up to handle both the straightaways and the tight turns. Pocono’s most famous turn is turn two, known as the “tunnel turn” because of the tunnel that runs underneath the track allowing vehicle access to the infield.

The 500-mile Cup races at Pocono are long; some fans would say they are too long and boring, and there has been talk for years that Pocono should lose one of its two Cup series dates to a more enjoyable speedway for the drivers and television viewers.

Pocono and Indianapolis are the only non-road course tracks on the Cup circuit that do not have a Busch Series of Craftsman Truck Series race that is run in support of the Cup race.

From 1971 to 1989, the CART series held an annual 500-mile race at Pocono.

I have a villa available for rent at the Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony from August 3 -August 10, 2007. It is a 2 bdroom, 2 bathroom villa facing a PGA golf course. The unit will sleep between 6-8 people. You can view it at www.splitrockresorts.com. Then research the Villas at Westwood. My villa is in the Villas at Westwood.
As you know the qualifying races begin on the 3rd and the main race is on the 5th. Pocono Speedway is less than 5 miles away from my resort. This is a family style resort with many amenities geared for the family entertainment. Besides the usual stuff with two indoor pools and one outdoor pool, there is a large lake that has a sandy beach area for swimming and boating is available for the rest of lake. There is children's camp available (extra, I believe) during the week. There are two golf courses that are also available to play on (18 & 9 holes). There is also a gym and indoor tennis courts, besides outdoor tennis, basketball, miniature golf course, softball plus other activities for the week. There are also a few different types of dining facilities within the resort.

All of this is available for you to wind down after the race on Sunday until the 10th of August for checkout.

Long home to the Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the famous “Brickyard,” first welcomed NASCAR to its 2.5-mile oval in 1994. The Brickyard 400 is now one of the premiere races on the Nextel Cup circuit.

Built in 1909 as an automobile proving ground, the speedway was built as a 2.5-mile rectangle by its four founders because that was the largest track that could be constructed on the land available.

The first event was a hot-air balloon race, followed by three days of racing in August of 1909. However, the crushed stone and tar track was so dangerous, work began immediately on repaving the entire surface with more than three million bricks.

The first 500-Mile International Sweepstakes was held on May 30, 1911 -- and with the exception of two world wars, remains a Memorial Day fixture.

Ray Harroun took nearly seven hours to complete the 500-mile distance in 1911, while Arie Luyendyk won the 1990 edition in a record two hours and 41 minutes.

The track and grounds deteriorated badly during World War II -- and plans were made to replace it with residential housing. But Terre Haute businessman Tony Hulman stepped in and purchased the speedway and began a series of improvements to the facility that continue to this day.

Several NASCAR teams were invited to a one-day test session at the speedway by track president Tony George in 1993 -- and the inaugural Brickyard 400 was held one year later. Jeff Gordon has won four of the 13 races held there.

The track hosted three separate race weekends in 1910, but poor attendance forced management to re-think its plans for 1911, choosing to run one large event instead.

Where to stay:Tilton and Belmont offers a good area to stay because it's only 10 to 15 minutes away from Louden. I live here in New Hamphire for a few years.

Where to eat: In Tilton, There's a few resteraunts that are nice along route 3. Like the Tilton Diner , Applebee's and a few places in downtown Tilton.

Sidetrips:Also in Tilton, there are some nice shops in Tilton and Franklin NH. I'm a NASCAR fan who knows a few things about a few places around the track. Stephen Foster.
