    Born: October 10, 1974 in Kannapolis, N.C.

    In the family: He is the son of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt and the grandson of Ralph Earnhardt, one of the early pioneers of the sport. His half-brother, Kerry Earnhardt, is also a part-time NASCAR driver.

    Career highlights: Known as “Junior” or “Little E” to fans, Earnhardt Jr. is NASCAR’s most popular driver, known for his boyish charm and easygoing, frat-boy lifestyle. He is a favorite of corporate America, and easily outdistances any other driver when it comes to endorsement deals. He is also the sport’s most prominent bachelor, though he has no difficulty attracting women.

    • Earnhardt began driving at age 17, competing in the Street Stock division at Concord Motorsport Park in North Carolina. Within two seasons, he had moved up to the Late Model Stock division, where he raced against his sister, Kelley, and half-brother, Kerry.

    • In 1998, he moved up to the Busch Series (now Nationwide), and won the championship in his first season, a feat he repeated the following year, beating his good friend and rival Matt Kenseth each time.

    • In 2000, Earnhardt fulfilled his birthright and moved up to the Cup series, capturing two wins and becoming the first rookie to win the mid-season All-Star race, though he finished second to Kenseth in the Rookie of the Year contest by just 42 points.

    • In 2001, he finished second in the season-opening Daytona 500, but just behind him, tragedy struck. His father, Dale Earnhardt Sr. was killed when he crashed in the final corner of the final lap as he attempted to block the field so that Junior and Michael Waltrip – both of whom drove for Earnhardt Sr.’s team, Dale Earnhardt Inc. – could have a battle for the victory. The rest of the season was predictably tumultuous for Junior. He crashed in the first lap during the following race, but rebounded and won three races and finished eighth in the points.


    • 2002 was an up-and-down season for Junior, largely because he suffered a concussion in an early-season race at California Speedway which affected his confidence behind the wheel. He was knocked unconscious in the accident, and the shot from the in-car camera of Junior slumped at the wheel sent a chill through the NASCAR community. He rebounded to win both races at Talladega – continuing his dominance at restrictor plate tracks – and finished 11th in the standings.

    • 2003 was Junior’s breakout year. He again swept Talladega – making it a record four in a row – and won at Phoenix. He finished third in the points race, and won the Most Popular Driver award for the first time in his career.

    • In 2004, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Daytona 500, exactly six years to the day of his father’s one and only victory in the “Great American Race.”

    • Tragedy struck in July 2004 when Junior, during an off-weekend for the Nextel Cup Series, suffered a fiery crash while practicing for an American LeMans Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. The car burst into flames with Junior trapped inside. An in-car sensor showed that the temperature jumped from 115 degrees to 750 degrees in 2.5 seconds, before the sensor burned out. Junior was inside of the car for 14 seconds before finally pulling himself out of the ball of fire. He suffered second-degree burns on his chin, neck, and legs. But the eeriest part of the incident was what he would later tell journalist Mike Wallace on the television program 60 Minutes. Here’s an excerpt of the transcript:

    Wallace: “Do you think your dad was watching you when you ran into trouble at Sonoma?”

    Earnhardt Jr.: “Yeah, I mean, he would have to be. I think he had a lot to do with me getting out of that car. Absolutely. I don’t know how else to put it. I don’t want to put some weird psycho twist on it, like he was pulling me out or anything, but he had a lot to do with me getting out of that car. From the movement I made to unbuckle my belt, to laying on the stretcher, I have no idea what happened. How I got out.”

    Wallace: “But what does your dad have to do with it?”

    Earnhardt Jr.: “I don't have an explanation for it other than when I got into the infield care center, I had my PR man by the collar, screaming at him to find the guy that pulled me out of the car. He was like, ‘Nobody helped you get out.’ And I was like, ‘That's strange, because I swear somebody had me underneath my arms and was carrying me out of the car. I mean, I swear to God.”

    Wallace: “And that was your dad?”

    Earnhardt Jr.: “Yeah, I don't know. You tell me. It freaks me out today just talking about it. It just gives me chills.”


    • He started the following two Cup races, but was replaced by teammates mid-race. He rebounded, winning both the Cup and Busch races at Bristol and qualified for the inaugural Chase for the Championship. During the Chase, he held the points race following his fifth career win at Talladega. The lead was brief, however, because he was penalized 25 points by NASCAR for using obscene language in a post-race interview (Junior was responding to a question about how it felt to win his fifth race at Talladega, to which he replied: “That don’t mean s***. Daddy won ten.”). He went on to suffer two DNF’s in the Chase and finish a disappointing fifth in the standings.

    • 2004 was also notable for the fact that Junior experienced his first success as a car owner when Martin Truex Jr. won the Busch Series Championship in a car owned by Junior’s JR Motorsports. Truex repeated the feat in 2005.

    • At the end of the 2004 season, Junior parted ways with his Tony Eury Sr. and Tony Eury Jr., his uncle and cousin, who had served as his crew chief and car chief throughout his Cup career. Eury Sr. took a management position with Dale Earnhardt Inc., while Eury Jr. became the crew chief for the other DEI car, driven by Michael Waltrip.

    The move was a failure, as Junior had a horrific season in 2005. Pete Rondeau started the season as Junior’s crew chief, but was replaced by DEI’s chief engineer, Shane Hmiel, who helped Junior to his only victory of the year, at Chicagoland Speedway. When Junior failed to make the Chase for the Championship, he was reunited with his cousin, Tony Eury Jr., for the final 10 races of the year. He finished 19th in the standings, but won his third consecutive Most Popular Driver award.

    2006 so far ... The Earnhardt Jr./Eury Jr. team got off to a good start in 2006, and is expected to once again make the Chase for the Championship and compete for the Nextel Cup. Jr has won one race so far this year at Richmond.

    Dale JR was formally dating Elizabeth Peschock, a 21-year-old from Charlotte. They started dating in early July, but the relationship was "nothing serious". Recently in a gossip mag, there was an article stating he was getting ready to pop the question to former girlfriend Emily Maynard, but the article had numerous errors. Also recently, there was an article stating that Dale and Kelly Clarkson were being hooked up.

    Without question, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the most eligible bachelor in NASCAR. His many loves have been the subject of endless speculation in the pits and on internet message boards, but the 33-year-old bachelor shows no signs of settling down any time soon.
    Junior has been linked with Emily Maynard, 21, the girlfriend of the late Ricky Hendrick. Hendrick, the son of NASCAR team-owner Rick Hendrick, was killed with nine others in a plane crash in route to a race at Martinsville Speedway in 2004.

    Five days after the crash, Maynard learned she was pregnant with Ricky’s child and gave birth to a daughter, Josephine Riddick “Ricki” Hendrick, in June 2005. She became linked with Earnhardt in early 2006 after they were spotted together at a boxing match in Atlantic City.

    In the fall of 2005, Junior was spotted with Emily Whitaker, 23, the ex-girlfriend of Shane Hmiel, a close friend of Junior’s and a former NASCAR driver, who was suspended indefinitely after his second drug offense. Whitaker dated Hmiel for nearly three years, before calling it quits in 2005. While there was speculation about the relationship between Junior and Whitaker, there was never any confirmation that it was anything other than a platonic friendship.

    From 2004-2006, Junior had a long-distance, occasional relationship with a model named Teresa Lanistassi aka TJ. A regular in television and print commercials, the 31-year-old Lanistassi is a native of Millbrook, New York who currently lives in New York City with her son from a previous marriage to a former NASCAR sponsor executive.

    She was first spotted with Junior at a June 2004 race in Dover, and was believed to be spotted again during Speedweeks in Daytona in 2006, though she has also been linked to Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s Entourage. As of lately the two have not been speaking. Teresa has never dated hockey player, Zach Parise, nor have they ever met.

    In 2004, Junior had what was perhaps his most public, if short-lived, relationship, when he began dating 19-year-old Kortnie Coles while being followed by a reality television crew for the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. Junior met the beautiful and buxom Coles at Texas Motor Speedway in April, and was shown checking her out as she waited outside his hauler for his autograph. He then asked her for her autograph. The two were filmed together the following week at Martinsville Speedway, but the relationship ended shortly thereafter. There were rumors that Coles was a “pit lizard” on the prowl for a driver boyfriend, and she was apparently seen in a 2001 show on MTV called True Life: I’m a Race Car Driver running around the pits expressing her desire to land a driver. Coles is currently a pre-school teacher in Houston, Texas.

    In 2003, Junior was romantically linked with Leeann Tweeden, a former Playmate, Frederick’s of Hollywood model, and television host. A native of Manassas, Virginia, Tweeden has also been linked to NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray, surfer Shane Dorian, baseball players Josh Beckett and Scott Erickson, and road-racer Ben Bostrom. In 2001, Tweeden became a correspondent on the Fox Sports television show The Best Damn Sports Show, and in 2005 she became an anchor of NASCAR Nation, a nightly entertainment-themed show on the Speed Channel.





    From 2002-2003, Junior dated Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller. The California native was discovered surfing in Santa Barbara in 2001 by the famous photographer Mario Testino, and she quickly gained supermodel status, appearing in the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue later that same year.

    Miller met Earnhardt when he took her for a spin around Daytona Speedway as part of a feature for the 2003 swimsuit issue.

    And although many people don't know about this, Earnhardt Jr. also dated rapper and singer Lisa Lopes, member of R&B and hip hop group TLC, for a short time before her death in April 2002. Earnhardt paid tribute to Lopes after her death by painting a stripe next to the left headlight decal on his #8 car for the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway.



    In the fall of 2000, Junior had a brief relationship with Shannon Wiseman, a UNC-Charlotte grad who would later become Miss Winston. Wiseman gained notoriety when she finished second in MTV’s Wannabe a VJ3 contest. Junior asked a mutual friend to introduce them.

    At the time, Wiseman had a boyfriend, so she declined when Junior asked her out. But in the fall of 2000, Junior co-hosted a show on WEND 106.5 in Charlotte, where Wiseman was an intern. The show’s host, Kristen Honeycutt, asked Junior about his failed attempt to get a date with Wiseman, and during a commercial break Wiseman called in to say that he simply hadn’t tried hard enough.

    The two dated for a brief period shortly thereafter. Wiseman became familiar to race fans in 2002 when she was chosen to be Miss Winston, one of the famed spokesgals for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco that were always present in Victory Lane to plant a kiss on the winner. Later, Wiseman became a television reporter and currently serves as a correspondent for NASCAR.com.





    The crew chief for Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Team, Chad Knaus has been dating Brazilian beauty queen Bruna Oliveira for the past three years. Born in Rio de Janiero and raised in Massachusetts, Oliveira competed in the Miss Brazil-USA pageant and was named Miss Photenia. She currently resides with Knaus in Mooresville, N.C., where she works as a pilates instructor. The couple have two Shih Tzu dogs, Liam and Leila.

    Denny Hamlin, the driver of the #11 Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing, has been dating Kristin Buntain for the past seven years. The two were high school sweethearts in Chesterfield, Virginia, and in 2005, Buntain quit her job to move to North Carolina to be with Hamlin. The couple is rumored to have parted ways.

    Denny is now rumored to be dating several other people, including Amanda Gilliland, the younger sister of Nextel Cup driver David Gilliland.







    Greg Zipadelli, the crew chief for Tony Stewart and the #20 Joe Gibbs Chevrolet, met his wife, Nan, in Old Forge, New York in 1995. Nan, who was a high school teacher at the time, knew nothing about racing, and when Greg told her he was a crew chief from Hartford, she thought he said that he went to Harvard and that a crew chief had something to do with rowing.

    The couple have two children: Zachary Charles, born in 2001; and Elwina “Elli” Sophia, born shortly after Zipadelli and Stewart won their second Nextel Cup title in 2005.




    Jeff Gordon is currently married to Ingrid Vandebosch, a stunning Belgian model. They met through mutual friends and were dating while she was filming the movie Taxi, in which Vandebosch played a bank robber. Gordon made a cameo at her request, they have been together for over two years. She is a regular companion of his during race weekends.

    The two were married in a private ceremony in Mexico. Family members of both Vandebosch, who was born in Belgium, and Gordon were present at the celebration. The newlyweds "honeymooned" in Phoenix, Ariz., and Miami, Fla., - site of the final two events of the 2006 NASCAR season - before attending the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup banquet in New York in December. Their official honeymoon occured after the season ended at an undisclosed location.

    Congratulations to Jeff and Ingrid! Ingrid gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Ella Sofia Gordon, around 9 AM on Wednesday June 20, 2007.




    Brian Vickers has been linked to Mara Kadish since 2005. Kadish attended one of Vickers’ races in 2005 and accompanied him to the Champions’ Week in New York City. The couple reportedly vacationed in Brazil during the off-season before the 2006 season.

    This couple is also rumored to have parted ways.

    Vickers had previously dated Ivonne Macias, a model and actress who has appeared in the film Story of Us and on television shows such as NYPD Blue. Born in 1971, Macias is more than a decade older than Vickers.

    Kyle Busch has been dating 23-year-old Erica Dewey, a 2004 graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, since he entered Nextel Cup in 2005. Dewey won the 2004 Miss Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant and competed in the Miss Pennsylvania contest.

    This couple parted ways late summer 2007.





    In 2001, Elliott Sadler got engaged to Lisa Tollett on the fourth anniversary of their first meeting. That same year, Tollett won the Miss Tennessee pageant and finished in the top 10 at the Miss USA Pageant. The two met at Bristol Motor Speedway, where Tollett was serving as the race queen for the Food City 250. The couple split up a few years later, but reportedly remain close friends. In 2004, Tollett, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, was a cheerleader for the Carolina Panthers. She currently works as a drug rep. Her twin sister, Lori Tollett White, is a former girlfriend of Dale Earnhardt Jr.



    In Spring 2006, Elliot Sadler met a blonde bombshell model from France. Known by most as CS, she dazzles Eupore in many print ads. The two continued their affair until late fall 2006. They saw each other when her time allowed. Splitting time between the Bahamas, Florida, North Carolina, France and her career, the pair finally split due to each's busy schdule. CS, born in Brazil, to parents Tyrie and Anne, she graduated high school in Texas with honors then went on to continue her career. She enjoys hockey, soccer, and cricket, along with spending time with family and friends. It is unclear how the 2 met, but it is believed through a mutal friend.

    Elliott Sadler's current girlfriend is Amanda Prince. The two Emporia, VA natives have been going out for several months, but have known each other for some time. Amanda is a V-Tech graduate and a kindergarten teacher since 2005.




    Nextel Cup driver and two-time Busch Series Champion, Martin Truex Jr. is rumored to be close to an engagement with Sherry Pollex, the daughter of Greg Pollex, who owns ppc Racing, which owns several Busch teams and a Craftsman Truck team. The two have been dating since late summer 2005. Sherry Pollex previously dated Busch Series driver Jon Wood. She works for a motorsports public relations firm.





    Since early 2007 Kasey had been dating Ashley Miller, PR for Brian Vicker's #83 Red Bull team. This couple has recently parted ways.


    In the summer of 2004, Ashley Speegle, a gorgeous Virginia Tech student, was featured as a Kasey Kahne fan in a USA Today article about how NASCAR was becoming popular with women. A few months later, Speegle and Kahne began dating, though it’s unclear how Speegle went from a fan to a sweetheart. The two dated for approximately nine months in 2005, but reportedly broke up in the off-season.

    Kahne previously had a short relationship with Kristy Labonte, the daughter of NASCAR driver Terry Labonte. The two were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360 taking a ski vacation in Vail, Colorado, but had apparently broken up by the time the show aired.

    Kahne had a short relationship with VU student Britney Hagy in Spring/Summer of 2006. They were spotted together at the NASCAR pit crew challenge. Britney was also named the Food City Queen. She's a member of the Tri-Delts at VU











    Jeremy Mayfield has been married to Shana Sessions Mayfield since early 2003. The two met in 1999 at Darlington Speedway. They were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360, where they portrayed themselves as homebodies who kept to themselves.








    Carl Edwards, who nearly won the Nextel Cup title in his rookie season in 2005, was dating Amanda Beard, the Olympic gold medal swimmer who is pursuing a career in modeling. The two met at California Motor Speedway on Labor Day in 2004 -- just after Beard won her gold medal in the 200-meter breastroke at the Athens games -- but didn’t begin dating until the following February when they were reintroduced by Amy Van Dyken, a fellow gold medalist and mutual friend of both Edwards and Beard. Beard lives in Tucson, Arizona, where she is finishing her degree at the University of Arizona.The two called it quits earlier this year, because she couldn't handle the NASCAR lifestyle.
    Carl is now dating Kate Downey.





    Kevin Harvick married Delana Linville Harvick on February 28, 2001 in Las Vegas, just days before he took over driving the Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing following the death of Dale Earnhardt (the number of the car was changed from 3 to 29 after Earnhardt’s death).

    The two met during driver introductions in 1999, but did not begin dating until they were reintroduced at a Christmas party that year at Richard Childress Racing. Their romance was a secret until they got engaged, almost a year to the day from their first date. Delana is now listed as the car owner for the Busch and Craftsman Truck series teams fielded by Kevin Harvick, Inc.

    Delana Harvick is often the subject of teasing due to the fact that she wears a team firesuit on race days. No other NASCAR wives or girlfriends do this.






    Two-time Nextel Cup Champion Tony Stewart has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Krista Dwyer for many years, though the two are not currently together. Their engagement was announced in 1999, but was called off a short time later. Krista lives in North Carolina with Mojo, the famous monkey that she and Stewart acquired while they were a couple.



    Stewart has also had an on-again, off-again relationship with Jaime Schaffer, a calendar model and now an employee of No Fear Racing. The two reportedly split up due to Stewart’s famous anger-management problems -- he punched a photographer in Indianapolis in 2002 -- but she accompanied him to the White House later that year when he met President George W. Bush as the Winston Cup Champion. She was also seen with him at the Champions Week celebrations in New York in 2002 and 2003, but they apparently called it quits in 2004.


    Tony Stewart recently broke it off with Tara Roquemore in May 2007, a former Home Depot employee from Hiram, Georgia (photographed at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas). Fans have noted how unhappy and unfocused Tony appeared throughout their relationship and in recent weeks he seems to be ecstatic to return back to his single status, acting happy like he did before the relationship started. 2006 marked the first time in Tony's NASCAR career that he did not finish in the top 10 in points, and, needless to say, he did not make the Chase. Some fans say it was due to strain of the relationship with Tara. There also was much talk at how unhappy and disinterested Tara appeared at all racing events.She was also photographed holding hands withTony at a dirt track local to his home in Columbus, Indiana, in late summer 2006. Fans thought something was odd when Tara was continually spotted with Tony at numerous events while married. Tara Gentry (as she was formerly known) then divorced her husband after only 4 years of marriage on 10/10/06 to be with Tony full time, changing her name back to Roquemore. The entire affair was obvious to anyone who is one of Tony's fans and was very carelessly handled leaving spectulation that Tony was not interested in a full time relationship, but that Tara may have wanted more after having gone through a divorce for Tony and subsequently losing her job for taking too much time off, forcing Tony into the unwanted position of supporting Tara full time. Her first public appearance with Tony was at the NASCAR Martinsville Cup race on October 22, 2006, just days after her divorce was final from Marty Gentry. Fans called it her "coming out party". Despite the tumultuous affair, fans are hopeful Tony will make the Chase for the Nextel Cup this year."
    Tony has recently confirmed on his Sirius Radio Talk show that he and Tara are back together. They were seen together at the Daytona 500 race.






    2004 NASCAR Nextel Champion Kurt Busch and Eva Bryan met on a blind date in July 2003, immediately following a race at Pocono. The friend who set them up told Bryan that Busch was a veterinarian, not a race car driver, because she didn’t think Bryan would show up to meet a “redneck racer.” But Busch finished second in that race, and was very late for the date because he had to do several media interviews. Kurt says she thankfully waited, and the two hit it off. She didn’t even back out when she ultimately learned what he really did for a living. In 2005 the couple became engaged after Busch popped the question during a trip to Prague to watch a Formula One race. They later tied the knot exactly three years to the date they first met on July 27, 2006.






    Jimmie Johnson is married to model Chandra Janway Johnson, an Oklahoma native and graduate of the University of Oklahoma. They were introduced in 2002 by Jeff Gordon, and Johnson proposed the following year on a mountain top in Beaver Creek, Colorado during a ski vacation. They were married on December 11, 2004 in St. Barts, and honeymooned on a 150-foot yacht owned by Rick Hendrick, Johnson’s team owner.

    At the 2005 Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony in New York City, comedian Jay Mohr teased Johnson for how much better-looking his wife is than he. “That wasn’t exactly a lateral move,” he said.




    Ryan Newman met his wife, Krissie Boyle Newman, in 2001 on a blind date set up by Krissie’s grandmother and a church friend. A graduate of Shippensburg University with a degree in criminal science, Krissie was clerking for a North Carolina judge at the time and reportedly did not know what a stock car was. They married just before the start of the 2004 season and honeymooned in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Newmans are actively involved with animal-related causes, and have several rescue dogs.




    Jamie McMurray is now dating Christy Futrell. They have been together for over a year.

    Jamie McMurray and Katie Wallace, daughter of former Nextel Cup star Rusty Wallace, dated for about a year from 2004-05. Their budding romance was captured during an episode of the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. In that episode, Rusty Wallace, who had installed McMurray as the driver of his Busch Series car, noted that every time he turned around, McMurray was checking out his daughter. The two broke up some time in 2005. Katie Wallace is a student at Wake Forest University.








    Greg Biffle and Nicole Lunders dated for several years before Greg popped the question over the 2006 Christmas Holiday. Together the couple share a passion for animals; and work tirelessly for the benefit of local animal shelters and Humane Societies. Nicole is often found at events to benefit The Greg Biffle Foundation, which each year publishes the wildly popular NASCAR Pets calendar featuring drivers and their pets to raise funds to support the many animal shelter programs in need across the country. Together they have two very well known boxers Foster and Gracie who commonly can be found at every race or in many various advertising campaigns including Subway and Milk Bone Dog Bones.





    Clint Bowyer had been dating Athena Barber for over 3 years. Clint and Athena met when Clint was racing against her father in the midwest.

    Clint and Athena split up shortly after the 2007 championship banquet.










    Matt Kenseth, the 2003 Winston Cup Champion, has been married since 2000 to Katie Kenseth, a fellow Wisconsonite. The two met at a mutual friend’s wedding in their homestate, and married in the Carribean.












    Hendrick Motorsports driver Casey Mears is currently dating Trisha Grablander. In the past he was linked to Britney Glover and Melissa Joan Hart.

    NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Johnny Sauter and longtime girlfriend Cortney Owen wed on December 15, 2007. The Wisconsin natives, who met at a motor sports charity banquet in January 2004, and had been dating since 2005. Johnny, who made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2001, is currently seeking a full time Sprint cup ride for the 2008 season.
    Cortney is a former Miss Wisconsin USA and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater,currently employed by Co-Pilott Motorsports Marketing serving as Public Relations Manager for Menards Racing and driver, Paul Menard.     Many well wishes for years to come to the happy couple!
    NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jason Leffler and Alison Courtney East were married in Hawaii on Dec. 11, 2001. Alison is the daughter of open-wheel chassis builder, and USAC team owner, Bob East, well known in the racing world for his Beast Midget chassis. Brother Bobby holds the record for the youngest USAC National Midget champion. Sister Amy is an ESPN pit reporter and is married to NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Terry Cook. The couple welcomed their first child Charlie Dean Leffler August 16, 2007 at 6 lbs., 9oz. They share their Mooresville, NC home with their two yellow labs, Daphne and Chloe.

    Career highlights:

    • In 2001, at the age of 16, Busch competed in six races in the Craftsman Truck Series for Roush Racing. He was so young that he was kicked out of a race at California Speedway because the weekend also featured a CART race sponsored by Marlboro Cigarettes. Marlboro officials threw Busch out because federal law prohibits persons under 18 from participating in events sponsored by tobacco companies. Six weeks later, NASCAR imposed a minimum driver age of 18 beginning in 2002. At the time, Winston was still the sponsor of NASCAR’s title series.

    • In 2002, Busch was forced to move to the ASA (American Speed Association) because of the age requirement.




    So far in 2006... On April 14, 2006, Busch was ticketed for a little squeal of the tires outside Richmond, Va., just five months after brother Kurt received a much-publicized reckless driving charge during a race weekend in Arizona. Scheduled to appear in court on May 23, he could face up to a year in jail. Kyle had his 3rd Nextel Cup career win at New Hampshire on 7/16/06. Kyle finished 7th at the Brickyard after he led a few laps, where his teammate, Jimmie Johnson, went on to take the checkers.

    So far in 2008... Kyle Busch started the season off with a second place finish in the Chevy Silverado 250 at Daytona International Speedway, and followed it up a week later with a win in the San Bernardino County 200 at the newly named Auto Club Speedway (previously California Speedway) in Fontana, California. Two weeks later at Atlanta, he raced to another win in the American Commercial Lines 200.

    Other Information:
    • In just five years, Kyle Busch has gone from a Craftsman Truck driver to a top-20 driver on the Nextel Cup circuit.

    • Busch, who had but 54 career starts to his credit entering 2005, made the Cup Series take notice with his impressive rookie season that saw him become the youngest winner (in September at Fontana) and finish 20th in points. He won two races, had nine top-fives and 13 top-10s to easily win rookie of the year.

    • It was Busch's second rookie of the year award in as many years, having taken the Busch Series honor in 2004. In his first full NASCAR season, Busch posted five wins, 16 top-fives and 22 top-10s to finish second in points and earn a promotion from team owner Rick Hendrick to the top series.

    • Busch started a total of 61 races in NASCAR's top three series. He had a win, two top-fives and three-top 10s in 14 starts for Hendrick in the Busch Series, and in just 11 races in the Truck Series posted three victories, seven top-fives and nine top-10s for owner Billy Ballew.

    • His success at such a young age comes as no surprise given his track record, which dates to the late 1990s in the Legend Car series. Starting at age 13, Busch posted 65 Legend Car victories and two Las Vegas track championships before moving to Late Models in 2001.

    • Busch had 10 wins that season and also made his Craftsman Truck debut at the age of 17. In six races, he finished ninth on two occasions, but his career at that level would have to wait a year.

    • Having graduated from high school a year early, Busch was prohibited from competing in any of NASCAR's series after the sanctioning body announced that drivers had to be 18 or older. Busch spent 2002 in the ASA Series, finishing eighth in the season standings.

    • In 2003 Busch signed with Hendrick Motorsports. He twice finished second in just seven Busch Series starts and was seventh in another race. In May 2004, he won his first race at Richmond.

    • Busch is the younger brother of 2004 Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch.

    • In 2005, Sorenson ran his first full season in the Busch Series and got off to a hot start, leading the points halfway through the season. But he ran into controversy after his crew chief, Brian Pattie, was suspended for two months after it was determined that he had applied an illegal substance to the car’s tires. Sorenson was fined 50 points, and ultimately finished fourth in the standings, well behind Martin Truex Jr.

    2006 so far ... Sorenson began his first full season in the Nextel Cup in 2006, but continues to run full-time in the Nationiwide Series.

    Trivia tidbit: Sorenson has claimed in interviews to be very good at jump-rope.

    The modern history of die cast goes back to the early 1990's. Then companies like Racing Champions started Producing 1:64 scale and 1:24 scale die cast replicas of race cars seen on TV every weekend. Racing champions had to pay each driver likeness rights to secure their name and sponsor for the replicas. There is a urban legend out there that Dale Earnhardt Sr. milked the founder of Racing Champions out of a million dollars up front to secure the biggest name in NASCAR for these die casts.

    After the success of Racing Champions Earnhardt himself formed the Action Collectibles company. There he grabbed up his share of a market he was helping to create.

    Back in those days each top tier racing team had one primary sponsor and most had at least one major associate sponsor. For example Mark martin for many years had Valvoline as a primary sponsor and Cummings Diesel Engines as a major associate sponsor. Most team had their associate sponsor displayed prominently on the rear deck lid.

    The die cast business changed all of that.

    Beginning in 1995 at the Winston all star race, Dale Earnhardt Sr. came to the track no in his familiar black #3 Goodwrench car but in a silver car painted to celebrate 25 ears of Goodwrench racing. Sales of that die cast went through the roof and the era of the special paint scheme was born. The following year Dale came back to the Winston all star race with a red white and blue machine to celebrate the Atlanta Olympics. Again the sales of these special one off race die cast went through the roof.

    All the other race team started following suit and it became common place for a race team to secure onetime sponsors or run special paint schemes at some of the most historic race tracks or for the several of the non points races run throughout the year.

    From 1995 to his tragic death Dale Sr. ran a special paint shceme in the all star race every year. He also ran special shcemes and sponsors at the two races in Japan in 1997 and 1998. He also ran special schemes for the different race thoughtout speedweeks at Daytona to start the season.

    Following Dale's leads the other NASCAR teams followed suit and the die cast business was born.

    Craziest Thing You've Done for the Love of the Sport: Gotten up at four in the morning to go to Las Vegas for the race. Gotten up at four in the morning the next day to watch the haulers enter the track. Only did that once. Also, I beat a girl at Jimmie Johnson Jenga to get a ticket to an autograph signing. Luckily for her, the big pile of wooden blocks fell on her head so the dude gave her one too.

    I'm a big fan because... I'm the biggest fan because I will do anything to watch NASCAR. I'll watch it every sunday, on occasion saturday night, as long as I get the channel. If it's on TNT or FX, then I'm glued to NASCAR.com. I will do anything to get autographs by my favorite drivers. I also think it was a crap call on Kurt Busch earlier this season at Watkins Glen. I don't even like him. Three years ago at the race in Vegas we had the opportunity to get Matt Kenseths autograph. I would've gotten up that early for it, but it was at five in the morning, and my dad didn't want to get up. So yes, that's why I'm the biggest fan.

Bonds were sold in 1998 and construction on the 1.5-mile tri-oval began a year later.

    Tickets for the 2001 season went on sale on Aug. 17, 2000 -- and within a week, nearly 80 percent of the season tickets had been sold. Paving on the track begin in September of that year and construction was completed in the spring of 2001.

    Jeff Gordon won the first two Cup events there, starting with the inaugural race on Sept. 29, 2001.

    Born: June 19, 1977 in South Bend, Indiana
    In the family: For David Stremme racing is a family business. Not only was his father Lou a racer but his mother Cindy could wheel her way around a racetrack as well. Stremme started out by working on his parent's race cars before he got behind the wheel of a car himself. Then in 2004 the family business expanded as Stremme became a car owner for his brother Bobby in the ASA Late Model Series. He attended LaSalle High School with fellow dodge driver Ryan Newman. He is currently single.





    Career highlights:
    • Stremme won the 2003 Busch Series Rookie of the Year award, despite only competing in 18 of the 34 races.


    • He made his Cup series debut in 2005, driving a couple of races in preparation for his first full season in 2006. His finishes in ’05 were mostly disappointing, with his highest finish being 16th.
