Pocono Raceway

Pocono Raceway is perhaps the most unique track on the Cup circuit. Triangular in shape and 2.5-miles in length, Pocono is referred to as the superspeedway that races like a road course. The track is essentially three long straightaways, including the longest straightaway in NASCAR, separated by three hairpin, road-course style turns.

Since 1974, Pocono has remained a challenge for Cup series crew chiefs, who struggle to get the chassis set-up to handle both the straightaways and the tight turns. Pocono’s most famous turn is turn two, known as the “tunnel turn” because of the tunnel that runs underneath the track allowing vehicle access to the infield.

The 500-mile Cup races at Pocono are long; some fans would say they are too long and boring, and there has been talk for years that Pocono should lose one of its two Cup series dates to a more enjoyable speedway for the drivers and television viewers.

Pocono and Indianapolis are the only non-road course tracks on the Cup circuit that do not have a Busch Series of Craftsman Truck Series race that is run in support of the Cup race.

From 1971 to 1989, the CART series held an annual 500-mile race at Pocono.

Where to stay:

I have a villa available for rent at the Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony from August 3 -August 10, 2007. It is a 2 bdroom, 2 bathroom villa facing a PGA golf course. The unit will sleep between 6-8 people. You can view it at www.splitrockresorts.com. Then research the Villas at Westwood. My villa is in the Villas at Westwood.
As you know the qualifying races begin on the 3rd and the main race is on the 5th. Pocono Speedway is less than 5 miles away from my resort. This is a family style resort with many amenities geared for the family entertainment. Besides the usual stuff with two indoor pools and one outdoor pool, there is a large lake that has a sandy beach area for swimming and boating is available for the rest of lake. There is children's camp available (extra, I believe) during the week. There are two golf courses that are also available to play on (18 & 9 holes). There is also a gym and indoor tennis courts, besides outdoor tennis, basketball, miniature golf course, softball plus other activities for the week. There are also a few different types of dining facilities within the resort.

All of this is available for you to wind down after the race on Sunday until the 10th of August for checkout.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, better known by the acronym NASCAR, was founded in 1948 by Bill France, Sr., (218) in Daytona Beach, Florida. Originally popular primarily in the southeastern United States, NASCAR has grown in recent years into a national phenomenon, thanks in large part to a national television contract signed in 2001.

Today, NASCAR claims 75 million fans – a 19 percent jump since 1999 – and is the fastest-growing professional sport in the United States. Seventeen of the 20 largest sporting events in the country each year – in terms of fan attendance – are NASCAR Sprint Cup races, and a NASCAR weekend has become a huge draw thanks to its gregarious fans and party atmosphere. Many fans camp out at the track for the entire weekend or longer, forming a makeshift city that often dwarfs the size of the city where the race is being held.

NASCAR consists of three main national touring series:

The Sprint Cup is stock-car racing’s premier series, and the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series have traditionally been considered the sport’s AAA and AA, respectively. But both the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series have seen a growth in recent years in the number of Sprint Cup drivers who also compete in their races.

NASCAR also sanctions many regional racing series’ throughout the United States, such as:

About: A former modified driver who used to draw crowds to Wall Stadium in New Jersey, Ray Evernham now heads a premier racing organization in NASCAR's top series. The road that led to his lucrative partnership with Dodge began with an encounter outside the garage at Daytona International Speedway. It was there that Evernham forged one of the most winning partnerships in racing with a young hotshot named Jeff Gordon. Under Evernham's leadership and meticulous attention to detail, the duo won 47 Cup races while building a new model for the modern-day pit crew and began to establish himself in the role of a respected and envied leader. In the off-season leading into the 2009 season, George Gillett Merged with the famed Petty Enterprises, adding the 43 and 44 cars to the stable. The 44 will run a limited schedule with AJ Allmendinger, while Reed Sorenson will move from the now defuct 10 car into the 43.

The team began running part-time in 2004 as Means-Jenkins Motorsports under a partnership with Jimmy Means and restaurant entrepreneur Bob Jenkins, with Jenkins becoming the full team owner in 2005. This team became a NASCAR team in 2008 in the truck series, but long before that, they were a team in the Rolex sports car series, often dominateing the GT class with 5-6 cars. They jumped headlong into the Camping World Truck series in 2008 with two teams in the 71 with Donny Lia and the 7 that was shared by TJ Bell and one of the teams GT drivers, Andy Lally. The team won their first race in the truck series in a wild three wide down the backstretch at Mansfield Motorsports Park in which the 71 car come out on top. The team moved up to the Sprint Cup level in 2009 with driver Mike Wallace for the Daytona 500 in a car bought out of the Earnhardt Ganassi stable. David Gilliland drove the car for the next four races to try and get it into the top 35, however, the team just missed the cut after Bristol, being 36th in owners points. This team has now said they will run the entire scedule regardless of where they fall in points, and they will also run a full 2010 schedule. the team shut down their Camping World truck series team to focus on the cup ride before the seasons 10th race.

About: Richard Childress is the first owner to win championships in the NASCAR's top series(Dale Earnhardt -- 1986, '87, '90, '91, '93 and '94), Busch Grand National (Kevin Harvick -- 2001) and Truck Series (Mike Skinner -- 1995), earning more than 100 victories. Childress drove his own car in NASCAR's top series from 1969 to '81, recording six top-five and 76 top-10 finishes. He finished fifth in the point standings in 1975 and earned top-10 points finishes in five of the eight full seasons he competed as a driver. Childress retired as a driver in mid-1981, naming a young Dale Earnhardt to finish the season in his car. Childress formed a second Cup team in 1996, added two Busch teams in 2000 and a third Cup team in 2001. About: Michael Waltrip Racing was Toyota's premeir team in 2007. However 2007 was a difficult year for this organization as all three of it's drivers stuggled to make races, calling on replacements for road corses and other events. All three cars made only 70 (less than two full seasons) starts combined out of 108 attempts. Six of which, Dale Jarret used his past champion provisional to get into. 2008 was a different story for the team as all three cars made their way to the top 35 in owners points durring the season. All three cars combined only missed one race, With Waltrip and Reutimunn netting six top tens. the No.44 and No.55 were locked into the top 35 at seasons end while the No.00 was knocked out in the final race of the season. However, due to the closing of the No.01, and No.15 The 00 will move up into the 34th position.

Infineon Raceway in Napa Valley, California is one of two road-courses on the Sprint Cup circuit. Built in 1968, the track has been hosting Cup series races since 1989. In 1968, the 2.52-mile road-racing course was constructed on 720 acres by Marin County owners Robert Marshall Jr., an attorney from Point Reyes, and land developer Jim Coleman of Kentfield. The two conceived of the idea of a racetrack while on a hunting trip. Ground was broken in August and paving of the race surface was completed in November. The first official event at Infineon Raceway was an SCCA Enduro, held on Dec. 1, 1968.

A year later, the track was sold to Filmways Corp., a Los Angeles-based entertainment company for $4.5 million. From 1969 through early 1970, Infineon Raceway hosted a variety of events, including USAC IndyCar races, NASCAR stock car races, SCCA races, and drag races. In May of 1970, the track closed and became a tax shelter for Filmways after losses of $300,000 were reported.

In 1973, Hugh Harm of Belvedere and Parker Archer of Napa arranged to lease the track through Filmways vice president Lee Moselle for $1 million. Bob Bondurant, owner and operator of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, announced that he would move his school from Ontario Speedway in Southern California to Infineon Raceway. The Pacific Region of the Sports Club Car of America announced it would hold a driver's school and series of non-spectator races at the track.

In 1975, a group calling itself Black Mountain Inc., which included Bondurant, William J. Kolb of Del Mar and Howard Meister of Newport Beach, purchased the track from Filmways for a reported $1.5 million. Five years later, The Black Mountain Group took on an additional partner -- the Long Beach Grand Prix Association -- in hopes of improving marketing and public relations.

In 1986, Harvey "Skip" Berg, president of a real estate acquisition and management firm headquartered in Seattle, took control of the track and became major stockholder in Brenda Raceway Corp.

NASCAR debuted at the track in 1989, with Ricky Rudd taking the inaugural victory. The Craftsman Truck Series was added to the schedule in 1995.

In 1998, ýThe Chute,ý a new high-speed straightaway that connects existing Turns 4 and 7 was officially opened during a press conference on May 5. The re-design of the road course shortened the circuit from 2.52 miles to 1.949 and increased the distance from 300 to 350 kilometers. The re-designed course will be used strictly for NASCAR events.

A $60 million modernization plan kicked off in 2001. Improvements completed thus far include the construction of hillside terrace seats above Turns 2-4, 40 garages for competitors, dramatically expanded entrance and access roads to reduce traffic congestion into and around the raceway, and increased run-off on the road course at turns 1, 2, 3, 3a, 4, 6 and 7.

A new permanent grandstand at start/finish, underground pedestrian tunnels, enlargement of pit road to accommodate a 43-car field, new system of shuttle roads and the separation of the road course form the drag strip happened in 2002. Improvements continued in 2003 as the final portions of the road course were repaved (Turns 1-3, 6-8 and 11).

Turns 4-5, 9-10, 12 and the Chute were repaved prior to the 2003 season. Additional runoff was also created at Turns 1 and 6, and the bridge at Turn 1 was replaced, while the Turn 6 bridge was removed permanently.

About MIS:

Michigan International Speedway boasts a proud 37-year history of hosting America's best racing action on its 1,400-plus acres in the scenic Irish Hills. With 18 degree banking and 73-foot wide sweeping turns, Michigan International Speedway provides drivers with three and four grooves to run around the two-mile speedway.

When Michigan International Speedway opened in 1968, the 12,000-seat center grandstand stood overlooking the new two-mile oval, a symbol of a new era for the Irish Hills area. With smaller grandstands on each side, the track proudly boasted 25,000 seats.

No one at the time suspected it was the start of something much, much bigger.

Since its opening, the success of the speedway and the growth of motorsports has made Michigan International Speedway the largest sports arena in Michigan. The center grandstand was extended in 1985, in 1989, and again in 1990 to seat over 27,000. In 1999, a 28,000-seat, 10-1/2-story high structure was added to the center grandstand, increasing the number of seats to 55,000-more than four times its original size.

In 1990, the first of two of the seven grandstands in turn one were erected, and in 1992, the first North Concourse grandstands (turn four) were built. By 1997, the eighth North Concourse grandstand was built in turn three.

Over the last decade, Michigan International Speedway has increased its reserved seating capacity by 82,000, and since 1985, the Speedway has increased its seating by nearly five times.

In 2004, the track added the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) walls to the track to make it safer for all drivers competing at MIS.

In 2005, MIS took on the largest renovation in its storied history by adding 870 additional seats with a new Club Level seating area called the Champions Club. The addition increased the seating capacity to 137,243. The renovation project included a reconfiguration of the frontstretch area, which added new ticket gates, vendor and display areas, several new concession stands, and a new skylounge structure high above the main grandstand near the start/finish line. The skylounge area holds 16 suites, press box, timing & scoring area, television and radio broadcast area, and race control for use by the sanctioning bodies.

After more than 37 years of improvements and updates, Michigan International Speedway is still considered one of the country's premier racing facilities.

Dale JR was formally dating Elizabeth Peschock, a 21-year-old from Charlotte. They started dating in early July, but the relationship was "nothing serious". Elizabeth is now being linked with David Stremme. Recently in a gossip mag, there was an article stating he was getting ready to pop the question to former girlfriend Emily Maynard, but the article had numerous errors. Also recently, there was an article stating that Dale and Kelly Clarkson were being hooked up.

Without question, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the most eligible bachelor in NASCAR. His many loves have been the subject of endless speculation in the pits and on internet message boards, but the 33-year-old bachelor shows no signs of settling down any time soon.
Junior has been linked with Emily Maynard, 21, the girlfriend of the late Ricky Hendrick. Hendrick, the son of NASCAR team-owner Rick Hendrick, was killed with nine others in a plane crash in route to a race at Martinsville Speedway in 2004.

Five days after the crash, Maynard learned she was pregnant with Ricky’s child and gave birth to a daughter, Josephine Riddick “Ricki” Hendrick, in June 2005. She became linked with Earnhardt in early 2006 after they were spotted together at a boxing match in Atlantic City.

In the fall of 2005, Junior was spotted with Emily Whitaker, 23, the ex-girlfriend of Shane Hmiel, a close friend of Junior’s and a former NASCAR driver, who was suspended indefinitely after his second drug offense. Whitaker dated Hmiel for nearly three years, before calling it quits in 2005. While there was speculation about the relationship between Junior and Whitaker, there was never any confirmation that it was anything other than a platonic friendship.

From 2004-2006, Junior had a long-distance, occasional relationship with a model named Teresa Lanistassi aka TJ. A regular in television and print commercials, the 31-year-old Lanistassi is a native of Millbrook, New York who currently lives in New York City with her son from a previous marriage to a former NASCAR sponsor executive.

She was first spotted with Junior at a June 2004 race in Dover, and was believed to be spotted again during Speedweeks in Daytona in 2006, though she has also been linked to Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s Entourage. As of lately the two have not been speaking. Teresa has never dated hockey player, Zach Parise, nor have they ever met.

In 2004, Junior had what was perhaps his most public, if short-lived, relationship, when he began dating 19-year-old Kortnie Coles while being followed by a reality television crew for the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. Junior met the beautiful and buxom Coles at Texas Motor Speedway in April, and was shown checking her out as she waited outside his hauler for his autograph. He then asked her for her autograph. The two were filmed together the following week at Martinsville Speedway, but the relationship ended shortly thereafter. There were rumors that Coles was a “pit lizard” on the prowl for a driver boyfriend, and she was apparently seen in a 2001 show on MTV called True Life: I’m a Race Car Driver running around the pits expressing her desire to land a driver. Coles is currently a pre-school teacher in Houston, Texas.

In 2003, Junior was romantically linked with Leeann Tweeden, a former Playmate, Frederick’s of Hollywood model, and television host. A native of Manassas, Virginia, Tweeden has also been linked to NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray, surfer Shane Dorian, baseball players Josh Beckett and Scott Erickson, and road-racer Ben Bostrom. In 2001, Tweeden became a correspondent on the Fox Sports television show The Best Damn Sports Show, and in 2005 she became an anchor of NASCAR Nation, a nightly entertainment-themed show on the Speed Channel.

From 2002-2003, Junior dated Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller. The California native was discovered surfing in Santa Barbara in 2001 by the famous photographer Mario Testino, and she quickly gained supermodel status, appearing in the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue later that same year.

Miller met Earnhardt when he took her for a spin around Daytona Speedway as part of a feature for the 2003 swimsuit issue.

And although many people don't know about this, Earnhardt Jr. also dated rapper and singer Lisa Lopes, member of R&B and hip hop group TLC, for a short time before her death in April 2002. Earnhardt paid tribute to Lopes after her death by painting a stripe next to the left headlight decal on his #8 car for the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

In the fall of 2000, Junior had a brief relationship with Shannon Wiseman, a UNC-Charlotte grad who would later become Miss Winston. Wiseman gained notoriety when she finished second in MTV’s Wannabe a VJ3 contest. Junior asked a mutual friend to introduce them.

At the time, Wiseman had a boyfriend, so she declined when Junior asked her out. But in the fall of 2000, Junior co-hosted a show on WEND 106.5 in Charlotte, where Wiseman was an intern. The show’s host, Kristen Honeycutt, asked Junior about his failed attempt to get a date with Wiseman, and during a commercial break Wiseman called in to say that he simply hadn’t tried hard enough.

The two dated for a brief period shortly thereafter. Wiseman became familiar to race fans in 2002 when she was chosen to be Miss Winston, one of the famed spokesgals for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco that were always present in Victory Lane to plant a kiss on the winner. Later, Wiseman became a television reporter and currently serves as a correspondent for NASCAR.com.

The crew chief for Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Team, Chad Knaus has been dating Brazilian beauty queen Bruna Oliveira for the past three years. Born in Rio de Janiero and raised in Massachusetts, Oliveira competed in the Miss Brazil-USA pageant and was named Miss Photenia. She currently resides with Knaus in Mooresville, N.C., where she works as a pilates instructor. The couple have two Shih Tzu dogs, Liam and Leila.

Sadly, they parted ways in the fall of 2008, same year they got engaged.

Denny Hamlin, the driver of the #11 Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing, has been dating Kristin Buntain for the past seven years. The two were high school sweethearts in Chesterfield, Virginia, and in 2005, Buntain quit her job to move to North Carolina to be with Hamlin. The couple is rumored to have parted ways.

Denny is now rumored to be dating several other people, including Amanda Gilliland, the younger sister of Nextel Cup driver David Gilliland.

Greg Zipadelli, the crew chief for Tony Stewart and the #20 Joe Gibbs Chevrolet, met his wife, Nan, in Old Forge, New York in 1995. Nan, who was a high school teacher at the time, knew nothing about racing, and when Greg told her he was a crew chief from Hartford, she thought he said that he went to Harvard and that a crew chief had something to do with rowing.

The couple have two children: Zachary Charles, born in 2001; and Elwina “Elli” Sophia, born shortly after Zipadelli and Stewart won their second Nextel Cup title in 2005.

Jeff Gordon is currently married to Ingrid Vandebosch, a stunning Belgian model. They met through mutual friends and were dating while she was filming the movie Taxi, in which Vandebosch played a bank robber. Gordon made a cameo at her request, they have been together for over two years. She is a regular companion of his during race weekends.

The two were married in a private ceremony in Mexico. Family members of both Vandebosch, who was born in Belgium, and Gordon were present at the celebration. The newlyweds "honeymooned" in Phoenix, Ariz., and Miami, Fla., - site of the final two events of the 2006 NASCAR season - before attending the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup banquet in New York in December. Their official honeymoon occured after the season ended at an undisclosed location.

Brian Vickers has been linked to Mara Kadish since 2005. Kadish attended one of Vickers’ races in 2005 and accompanied him to the Champions’ Week in New York City. The couple reportedly vacationed in Brazil during the off-season before the 2006 season.

Vickers had previously dated Ivonne Macias, a model and actress who has appeared in the film Story of Us and on television shows such as NYPD Blue. Born in 1971, Macias is more than a decade older than Vickers.

This couple parted ways late summer 2007.

In 2001, Elliott Sadler got engaged to Lisa Tollett on the fourth anniversary of their first meeting. That same year, Tollett won the Miss Tennessee pageant and finished in the top 10 at the Miss USA Pageant. The two met at Bristol Motor Speedway, where Tollett was serving as the race queen for the Food City 250. The couple split up a few years later, but reportedly remain close friends. In 2004, Tollett, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, was a cheerleader for the Carolina Panthers. She currently works as a drug rep. Her twin sister, Lori Tollett White, is a former girlfriend of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

In Spring 2006, Elliot Sadler met a blonde bombshell model from France. Known by most as CS, she dazzles Eupore in many print ads. The two continued their affair until late fall 2006. They saw each other when her time allowed. Splitting time between the Bahamas, Florida, North Carolina, France and her career, the pair finally split due to each's busy schdule. CS, born in Brazil, to parents Tyrie and Anne, she graduated high school in Texas with honors then went on to continue her career. She enjoys hockey, soccer, and cricket, along with spending time with family and friends. It is unclear how the 2 met, but it is believed through a mutal friend.

Elliott Sadler's current girlfriend is Amanda Prince. The two Emporia, VA natives have been going out for several months, but have known each other for some time. Amanda is a V-Tech graduate and a kindergarten teacher since 2005.

Nextel Cup driver and two-time Busch Series Champion, Martin Truex Jr. is rumored to be close to an engagement with Sherry Pollex, the daughter of Greg Pollex, who owns ppc Racing, which owns several Busch teams and a Craftsman Truck team. The two have been dating since late summer 2005. Sherry Pollex previously dated Busch Series driver Jon Wood. She works for a motorsports public relations firm.

Since early 2007 Kasey had been dating Ashley Miller, PR for Brian Vicker's #83 Red Bull team. This couple has recently parted ways.

In the summer of 2004, Ashley Speegle, a gorgeous Virginia Tech student, was featured as a Kasey Kahne fan in a USA Today article about how NASCAR was becoming popular with women. A few months later, Speegle and Kahne began dating, though it’s unclear how Speegle went from a fan to a sweetheart. The two dated for approximately nine months in 2005, but reportedly broke up in the off-season.

Kahne previously had a short relationship with Kristy Labonte, the daughter of NASCAR driver Terry Labonte. The two were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360 taking a ski vacation in Vail, Colorado, but had apparently broken up by the time the show aired.

Kahne had a short relationship with VU student Britney Hagy in Spring/Summer of 2006. They were spotted together at the NASCAR pit crew challenge. Britney was also named the Food City Queen. She's a member of the Tri-Delts at VU

Jeremy Mayfield has been married to Shana Sessions Mayfield since early 2003. The two met in 1999 at Darlington Speedway. They were featured on the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360, where they portrayed themselves as homebodies who kept to themselves.

Carl Edwards, who nearly won the Nextel Cup title in his rookie season in 2005, was dating Amanda Beard, the Olympic gold medal swimmer who is pursuing a career in modeling. The two met at California Motor Speedway on Labor Day in 2004 -- just after Beard won her gold medal in the 200-meter breastroke at the Athens games -- but didn’t begin dating until the following February when they were reintroduced by Amy Van Dyken, a fellow gold medalist and mutual friend of both Edwards and Beard. Beard lives in Tucson, Arizona, where she is finishing her degree at the University of Arizona.The two called it quits earlier this year, because she couldn't handle the NASCAR lifestyle. Amanda Beard will be marrying her boyfriend of 3 years, Sacha Brown.
Carl is now dating Kate Downey.

Kevin Harvick married Delana Linville Harvick on February 28, 2001 in Las Vegas, just days before he took over driving the Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing following the death of Dale Earnhardt (the number of the car was changed from 3 to 29 after Earnhardt’s death).

The two met during driver introductions in 1999, but did not begin dating until they were reintroduced at a Christmas party that year at Richard Childress Racing. Their romance was a secret until they got engaged, almost a year to the day from their first date. Delana is now listed as the car owner for the Busch and Craftsman Truck series teams fielded by Kevin Harvick, Inc.

Delana Harvick is often the subject of teasing due to the fact that she wears a team firesuit on race days. No other NASCAR wives or girlfriends do this.

Two-time Nextel Cup Champion Tony Stewart was engaged for a short time to Krista Dwer in 1999. The two hadhad an on-again, off-again relationshipfor many years.Krista lives in North Carolina and had custody ofMojo, the famous monkey (who apparently now resides in a zoo) that she and Stewart acquired while they were a together.

Stewart's next relationship was withJaime Schaffer, a calendar modelandemployee of No Fear Racing. It was largely speculated in 2006 when Tony missed the top 10 and Chase it was largely due to hisstress over he and Tara's relationship. It became obvious after her divorce that Tarawanted more than gf status after disolving her marriage, and ultimatelylosing her job with Home Depot fortaking too much time off. Friends said it left Tony feeling "obligated to provide for herfull time."Her first public appearance with Tony was at the NASCAR Martinsville Cup race on October 22, 2006, just days after her divorce was final from Marty Gentry. Fans called it her "coming out party". Nowadays it is rumored that she is dating another driver, however this is yet to be confirmed.

Darlington 2008 weekend brought about a couple of firsts forTony Stewart, his first ever victory at the hands of "The Lady in Black" and the "maiden voyage" of his girlfriend, who you may recognize. It's Renee White former Miss Winston, ex-wife of Derrick Cope and ex-girlfriend of Robby Gordon.
It is now rumored that Tony is single, he and Renee remain friends.

2004 NASCAR Nextel Champion Kurt Busch and Eva Bryan met on a blind date in July 2003, immediately following a race at Poco no. The friend who set them up told Bryan that Busch was a veterinarian, not a race car driver, because she didn’t think Bryan would show up to meet a “redneck racer.” But Busch finished second in that race, and was very late for the date because he had to do several media interviews. Kurt says she thankfully waited, and the two hit it off. She didn’t even back out when she ultimately learned what he really did for a living. In 2005 the couple became engaged after Busch popped the question during a trip to Prague to watch a Formula One race. They later tied the knot exactly three years to the date they first met on July 27, 2006.

Jimmie Johnson is married to model Chandra Janway Johnson, an Oklahoma native and graduate of the University of Oklahoma. They were introduced in 2002 by Jeff Gordon, and Johnson proposed the following year on a mountain top in Beaver Creek, Colorado during a ski vacation. They were married on December 11, 2004 in St. Barts, and honeymooned on a 150-foot yacht owned by Rick Hendrick, Johnson’s team owner.

At the 2005 Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony in New York City, comedian Jay Mohr teased Johnson for how much better-looking his wife is than he. “That wasn’t exactly a lateral move,” he said.

Ryan Newman met his wife, Krissie Boyle Newman, in 2001 on a blind date set up by Krissie’s grandmother and a church friend. A graduate of Shippensburg University with a degree in criminal science, Krissie was clerking for a North Carolina judge at the time and reportedly did not know what a stock car was. They married just before the start of the 2004 season and honeymooned in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Newmans are actively involved with animal-related causes, and have several rescue dogs.

Jamie McMurray is now dating Christy Futrell. They have been together for over a year.

Jamie McMurray and Katie Wallace, daughter of former Nextel Cup star Rusty Wallace, dated for about a year from 2004-05. Their budding romance was captured during an episode of the FX show NASCAR Drivers: 360. In that episode, Rusty Wallace, who had installed McMurray as the driver of his Busch Series car, noted that every time he turned around, McMurray was checking out his daughter. The two broke up some time in 2005. Katie Wallace is a student at Wake Forest University.

Greg Biffle and Nicole Lunders dated for several years before Greg popped the question over the 2006 Christmas Holiday. Together the couple share a passion for animals; and work tirelessly for the benefit of local animal shelters and Humane Societies. Nicole is often found at events to benefit The Greg Biffle Foundation, which each year publishes the wildly popular NASCAR Pets calendar featuring drivers and their pets to raise funds to support the many animal shelter programs in need across the country. Together they have two very well known boxers Foster and Gracie who commonly can be found at every race or in many various advertising campaigns including Subway and Milk Bone Dog Bones.

Clint Bowyer had been dating Athena Barber for over 3 years. Clint and Athena met when Clint was racing against her father in the midwest.

Clint and Athena split up shortly after the 2007 championship banquet.

Clint is now dating Lorra Podsiadllo. This is not true. Clint and Lorra have never dated. They are just friends, but people make assumptions when they see a female at the track with a driver. Clint is single.

Athena is currently dating Robby Gordon, owner and driver for Robby Gordon Motorsports.

Matt Kenseth, the 2003 Winston Cup Champion, has been married since 2000 to Katie Kenseth, a fellow Wisconsonite. The two met at a mutual friend’s wedding in their homestate, and married in the Carribean.

Congratulations to Katie and Matt who are expecting a baby in July! When asked through a pre-race interview a month ago, Matt stated they chose not to find out the sex of the baby..Matt has a teenage son, Ross, from a previous marriage...Congrats to the new coming parents!

Hendrick Motorsports driver Casey Mears is currently dating Trisha Grablander.
Casey and Trisha are currently expecting their first child, a girl, due in October.
In the past he was linked to Britney Glover and Melissa Joan Hart.

Congratulations to Casey and Trisha on the birth of their daughter, Samantha Mae Mears, on October 7, 2008. Little Samantha was born at 12:42 p.m. and weighed 8 lbs., 7 oz and was 20 3/4 inches long.

NASCAR Newlyweds..

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Johnny Sauter and longtime girlfriend Cortney Owen wed on December 15, 2007. The Wisconsin natives, who met at a motor sports charity banquet in January 2004, and had been dating since 2005. Johnny, who made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2001, is currently seeking a full time Sprint cup ride for the 2008 season.
Cortney is a former Miss Wisconsin USA and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater,currently employed by Co-Pilott Motorsports Marketing serving as Public Relations Manager for Menards Racing and driver, Paul Menard. Many well wishes for years to come to the happy couple!

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jason Leffler and Alison Courtney East were married in Hawaii on Dec. 11, 2001. Alison is the daughter of open-wheel chassis builder, and USAC team owner, Bob East, well known in the racing world for his Beast Midget chassis. Brother Bobby holds the record for the youngest USAC National Midget champion. Sister Amy is an ESPN pit reporter and is married to NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Terry Cook. The couple welcomed their first child Charlie Dean Leffler August 16, 2007 at 6 lbs., 9oz. They share their Mooresville, NC home with their two yellow labs, Daphne and Chloe.
